  1. Went out to feed the fish this morning and .......HELLO. For some reason they have spawned into the one plant that floats on the surface. So most of the eggs have settled on the bottom?? I have moved the plant into my tank in the shed with an airstone to see what comes about. I was also thinking about all those eggs on the floor. I got a plastic (library) card and my net and scraped the floor then scooped them all up. I just have these in an icecream container and an airstone (just in case the scraping of them has damaged themin any way) I tried making plastic spawning mats and floating mops last year but they didnt go anywhere near them. Anything else i can try??
  2. I thought that too, wondered if it was just me? Hey thanks for the reply. Easier to read about something when you know the correct name.
  3. SORRY>>>>>>>>  Bottom right   (Holds up the hands just to check) Yup the right.
  4. is this please? Just browsing and think the fish in the bottom left is very unsual looking. Can someone tell me the name? http://www.trademe.co.nz/Home-living/Pe ... 859198.htm
  5. The Warehouse have some stuff (down here) that might be what youre after. IN the garden dept. Also look for the stuff they use to cover gutters. Payless plastics? Para Rubber?
  6. Today it looks much the same but the reddness has gone slightly.
  7. Hi there, my new girl has just today developed a "pimple type" spot above her eye . Its slighty red with a white top. Took heaps of pics but his is the one you can see it the clearest. Sorry about the reflection :-? What does it seem to be and how do i go about treating it? Thanks
  8. Thats a cool idea with the pipes. We had some lying around.... somewhere...?? Maybe when i get the big tank set up i'll place some in there.
  9. Honest I was just a bit worried cause i hit it with the hammer to knock a side out so it would sit a bit better in the gravel. (rather than chocking the sides up) and there was quite a bit of 'fine crumbly dust stuff' coming off it. I filed the edges smooth too. But I soaked it and scrubbed it and now all the fish zoooooom thru it.
  10. Poor little guppies, theyre all bunched up in a corner scared outta their wits. There's 2 monsters in the tank. Ive got a makeshift cave coming, once its been soaking a bit to clean it. So they'll have a couple of places to hide.
  11. Oh I just had a pair of dwarf neon gourami follow me home Plus there are guppies in the tank. But i was looking at buying a cave just coz they looked cool. Thoight i'd save myself $10.
  12. I have a small terracotta pot that i have chipped a side away and have it soaking in water. I just thought i'd check it was ok to go in the tank for a cave? It wont leech anything into the water will it? Should i use a plastic cup instead? Thanks.
  13. I went to the LFS just to look again and the owner was there. He asked if i was back to get the pair of neon dwarfs. ?? Ok so i studied the tank and there was a female. She was chasing the 2 boys around nudging them in the belly, but they were just hooning off. After double checking with the owner, Its a girl. So.... I got the pair  Hey what else do you do? Here's a pic of them each in the bag still. PLEASE tell me she is a she.
  14. Ouch, sounds cruel. I guess i should read up a bit on the diseases. I just checked out tank and water specs, feeding and different colours. Glad to know the tank size is ok. Thats a definate negative on a local breeder, im pretty new here and dont know many ppl. On another note, rang the LFS to check on the price of them and asked about the female,, got told 'no, we dont get females in as they dont sell'. Um, perhaps it was a totally washed out male but even the owner (who works the weekend shift) told me it was a female. Might be able to get in there tomorrow and have another looksie. Theres another pet shop in taranaki on the way to Hawera that used to be good. New owners dont stock it like the last ones, therefore they dont have much to choose from. But i will give them a ring, you never know... We will be getting down to Palmy to wet pets this week so cant wait to look there.
  15. Hey thanks for that people, The LFS did have females and males. Would it be best to get just a pair? Dont want to rock the boat. Should i say are they happier in a pair? Im not too worried about the female being dull if she had a mate to keep her company. Of course the male was the one that had me mesmerised.
  16. I was visiting the LFS on the weekend Looking at getting some corys, when i spotted a few dwarf neon gourami. Absolutley beautiful. I was wondering if i got a few more plants, like ambulia [sp?] for cover, would the gourami live hapily with my guppies? Dont mind if they ate a couple of the fry as they are breeding ALL THE TIME. It had on their tank "community fish". So rather that getting platies for colour i thought i could have a couple of these dwarfs? MAybe? Please say yes. Ive waited so long to get new tank mates.
  17. Ha Ha HA, real bargain. Lucky i dont live near aucks otherwise i'd get it. Unfortunatley we didnt make it to palmy. No one to babysit the lamb. :-? And we spent the whole weekend cleaning up , (house going on the market) But I have made it quite clear i'm keen on going.,.... soon. I just went to something fishy saturday morning and looked, pressed my face to the glass and thought i'd like that one and that one. Real nice blue-ish gouramis there. Wonder if they'd get along with my guppies?? BUT last time i went there was a decomposing body in one of the tanks. I was intending on getting some wee panda corys but at $14 a pop i re-thought if i really needed them. Maybe get a second job to help fund things.
  18. I went to look at the tank today, its a Jebo R 3100 series. It has 3 switches on the hood for the lights. It has a Jebo filter that sucks in one side, then goes thru the hood, out a pipe into filter wool then out thru the other side. It also has another part that makes the water flow from one side to the other. Quite nice, but hmmm, dont know.
  19. How much do they usually sell for? went to the LFS and the albino, bronze and a spotty one i cant remember the name were 7.40, there were a couple of pandas (very cute) for 14. and another nice spotted/striped one for the same. they were all approx [---------------] that big. Seemed a bit much for me esp when i was going to get 4. Perhaps im just not used to paying that much for something so little.
  20. I quite like those pandas. Hopefully i can get down to Palmy for a looksie. I think the tank is planted ok, i might just need to make some hidey holes., sorry about the dark pic, tried it without the flash.
  21. Thanks, i was also going to ask, will they be ok with a gravel base? Do they need any place to hide/ or special needs? Will check out the LFS tomorrow but i dont think they have any.
  22. Just contemplating getting a couple and wanting to know what the smallest available is? Every thread i've read on them ppl have commented you should have at least 4. I dont think the tank would house 4 but 2 would be ok. (60ltr with guppies)
