If you want high ph without the cloudiness you can get coral sand substrate or coral rock, neither of them make the water cloudy

Have a look at my thread, I carved an awesome piece 2M by 60 in 4 hours Bunnings sells all kinds of poly, I got a large 2.4M sheet of 100mm and quarted it - cost about $60/80

normal sand is rounded off on the edges, sharp sand is more square. Also the finer it is the smoother/less sharp it will be.

Light fittings come in two sizes, asian and european - My Hagen Glo fitting only takes aquaone tubes, the good brands are too long and won't fit in, apparently asian 4ft is smaller for some reason. Although with that said, there isn't a large range at my LFS's
