Your Cons will be too fast for them. They will pester slower more peaceful fish for sure.

How about Chinese algae eater or golden variety. They are too aggressive for most community tanks but should cope with the convicts nicely. BN's could work ok, depends if the cons see them as a threat. The younger are better for cleaning as they tend to hide out more as they get bigger.

If the History of the fish is unknown to date then it's lineage is just a guess. A diluted Red Devil? definitely has Midas look to it IMO. The requirements of both fish are pretty much the same whatever he ends up being called.

Sorry to hear your loss. Unfortunately it happens. What are your new plecs comming. The plec mix you did have in that tank was adventurous as well. A real mix of aggression levels.

Snowflake is LDA 33 -a barancistrus species like gold nugget. Snowball is L102 -a hypancistrus species that gets big like king tigers. There were some around 2-3yrs ago so hopefully some still around. The 136 are smaller hypancistrus like L046.

As far as I can see ryan has gone passed the normal MTS into a zone all by himself. "Empty tank hoarder". I'm on tank water so I just hose it in, but not to that volumes.

Well put Tiden. I agree that at this stage it's an unsustaintiated report and should in all honesty remain so until I get some further shots. I'm trying not to upset new Dad too much just yet but will get some pics soon. While the breeding itself is probably more important than who did it or who was first I cant agree that documentation isn't important. Without it stories of past spawns, fry, babies etc are just that-stories. No sour grapes, no throwing toys, but opinions of worth are based on facts

Any plant i've seen in the odd doco looked Val'ish' in the shallows. But it is mostly plantless. Bottom silty ans sandy Java fern and anubias for me too. I've tied them to coral and eventually lock themselves into it, and becomes quite fish proof I call this the "thunberbird tank"- probably not too realistic though.

Hff Albany is worth a look, but Mt Roskill does a have greater range of stock. Animates Nth shore( Porana Ave) isn't the best but is only 5 mins down the from Albany and close to Castor Bay Animates Mt eden (mt Eden Rd) is only a couple minutes from HFF Mt Roskill (Cnr Frost and Carr Rd),so you could do both those easily on the trip to airport.

When an importer or shop decides to sell a peacock as a 'firebird" , and then in small letters it's species designation, I think they are in fact covering their backs-better to give new or broad term to a fish rather than getting caught ou down the line as supplying hybrids. How cool it would have been if the fish you got 10 years ago came in with a scientific name, something to work with and then breeders could pool resources in confidence. Still not foolproof but better than it is now.

So right Livingart. In fact the fish in the link I posted comes from Mozambique and was translocated to Malawi in the period you mention. The questions I posted are, in the most part rhetorical, and it seems that has been picked up. Analogy- My cousin Bob lives in L.A. He is 35, lives in Venice Beach, drive a toyota SUV and have short brown hair with a bit of salt&pepper in it. So the first Bob I meet in L.A who fits that criteria must be my cousin? At least with the knowlege of his surname I can be more likely to find the right BOB- if you get my drift.

I'd leave them- even put in some more wood/rockwork to consolidate their hidey holes. looks like that is the bristlenose breeding tank. Nice job.
