  1. Say no to paying extra and ask him what his reputation is worth - I would guess it is more than $20 ie would you pass his name on to others if he can not be trusted to honour his word.
  2. Can I suggest that you text him and tell him that you do not intend to proceed any further with the job as he has not done what was requested for the price he quoted and you are not prepared to pay extra. He would have known from the start how many trips he would have to make and should have been carrying all the gear/glass necessary. Is he from a business or just self employed. If from a business I would contact them. I find this travel charge is becoming more and more common with the likes of plumbers etc. You tell them what is wrong, they come out, go away, come back and charge extra for all the unnecessary mileage and time. Our plumber now makes sure he only does one trip!
  3. dont delete the text. A quote is exactly that and is final. He may be thinking you no longer have it. Pay what the quote was for and no more.
  4. http://www.christchurchtop10.co.nz/ its a camping ground but has nice units, a childrens playground and is a good place to stay if you have children.
  5. This what I imagined viral hemorrhagic septicemia would look like.
  6. fighters normally only nip back if the guppies nip them first. I have moved my 4 fry into a big tank now (250 litres) and they are looking good. However it appears that a yellow male may have gotten at the orange female in the shop because they appear to have yellow and black tails.
  7. my fx5 struggled on my 450 litre planted tank. It couldn't push the current through the plants and I ended up with a lot of 'dust' on my leaves.
  8. I would suggest you put some raspbora species in with the gourami. Avoid other anabantoids like fighters etc as this can cause issues. A larger school of a single species often looks better than a variety of species in groups of six or so. Some ground dwellers as well will be a good idea as a cleanup crew. You can purchase various cory that grow to different sizes.
  9. If they do that and give away too many fry then they may not be able to register the breeding with the FNZAS - you need a minimum of 10 fry to survive to 30 days and show the parents to qualify for a breeding certificate. For fish like guppy its a good idea to do so as it is becoming harder to import them due to risk of disease. By registering the breeding it is recorded proof that they are here legally.
  10. Hali I would email or pm Jonathan - jfishfanatic or Rob to check, but I would expect you would be welcome to go and meet them first. Different clubs do joining different ways from what I gather. I would take my money if I were you because you are bound to want to join, they are a great group, very welcoming and knowledgable and a good range of ages. By joining the club you also join the Federation, which is greater than this forum. You will receive 4 Aquarium World Magazines per year and also your membership card entitles you to discounts from some of the fish shops throughout NZ (however you do need to ask the shops nicely).
  11. Great pics and a beautiful day to be at the zoo. What sort of camera do you have Liam?
  12. cute and yum I do love steaks!! are you going to de-horn him or has he already been done?
  13. Well I have seen, many times the result of the idiots who do not wear them on a scooter. When one has to stop their own motorbike and pick a scooter up off a rider on the side of the road, only to find the rider underneath is wearing jeans and a windproof jacket,no gloves and jandals ... As I have said I ride a scooter, I do not wear leathers but I do wear a proper motorcycle jacket, gloves, full face helmet and good solid shoes. If wet I wear the full kit including boots. Unfortunately smaller scooters are not as safe as the bigger ones but 99.9% of the time it is the car driver who is the cause because with scooters, cars tend to try and push them out the way. All I can say is, if you buy a scooter or motorcycle treat everyone else as the idiot. Ride carefully, wear decent clothing, stick in the middle of the lane - not at the side and watch out for car doors being opened on you and cars u-turning. You need to remember that in the rear vision mirror and side mirrors you are a small but relatively fast moving dot.
  14. Perhaps someone would like to buy the fish at auction and give it a larger tank or pond to swim in.
  15. I did with no issues. It was my carry on luggage inside a chiller bag. Put them through the scanner and all and no comment made.
  16. nope, its always been up to a 250cc, even back when I got my learners 37 years ago. The newest legislation that came in specifies which sport bikes up to 250 you can not ride on a learners, ie the very zippy sports bikes. Much much safer to get a scooter bigger than 50cc, one that can get you out of the tight spots when cars squeeze you to the side of the lane and big enough to stop drivers thinking they can park beside you at the lights. Bigger scooters and small motorcycles get a lot more respect than a 'nifty fifty'. My 125cc (we also have a CX500 classic and Gagiva 650 sports bike) can do 95 on the motorway before red lining. However I do have to allow extra distance for stopping at that speed).
  17. Why a 50cc? In my experience they are dangerous. Not enough power to keep up with the traffic. You would be much much better with a 125 or similar at a minimum size.

    Hello [AKL]

If you are looking at keeping betta in a tank, particularly males, be aware that the tanks with the overhead trickle filters do not go well with these fish. The long fins and tail make it hard work for the fish in a current. They need a lesser flow and in tanks with the overhead filter and a power head will not live happily if at all.
  19. It does appear so unfortunately. I know it has, for a long time, been an issue particularly when mixing with NZ bred guppies however in my case I had hoped to avoid problems by purchasing just imports. Of note though, I have found the fourth fry and they are looking good atm and are colouring up. Have you lost any more of yours?
  20. Are they imports and have you added any new to them or have you added any NZ bred guppies to the tank? How long have you had them? There is definitely an issue with imports atm. It appears that once the females drop fry both adults die off followed by the fry themselves in larger numbers than would be natural. I had heard of it but thought it pertained only to one batch. However I purchased a pair three weeks ago, the female dropped fry a couple of days later on the Thursday. The male died the following Thursday, followed by her 7 days later. At this stage 3 of the 4 fry are still alive. Before someone asks my tank is clean and healthy with no water issues.
  21. Let me know if you need me to verify the breeding. Good luck!
  22. Phone around the pet shops or look at their websites. That will give you the best idea of whether or not it is a good price.
  23. Jokes, only jealous cos I wasn't there
