  1. Your fish wont feel anything unless they have one gill sticking out of the tank earthing them. You might feel it if you stick your hand in but simply because you are touching the ground.
  2. I visited there this morning for the first time since it changed ownership, Wow!! The discus were stunning as were the fighters. A nice selection of nice looking fish there including fancy plecs. The mountain minnows are breeding in mass as well! I am seriously impressed.
  3. You got a bath? I've used the home bath before, wasnt very popular though because the family had to shower for four weeks. The tannins did stain the bath but good old Jiff and elbow grease solved that problem.
  4. I suspect he will know if you have your tanks on a cabinet, the moment you move the cabinet. If you have them on stands you are lucky. When we last had our carpets done it took several days. Maybe it will this time, perhaps they could do room by room
  5. How bad is the existing carpet. Given my recent experience with my 450 litre tank bursting and totally ruining the carpet in the lounge of the place we rent, perhaps your landlord would be open to just recarpeting the rest of the house in the meantime. He/She could always purchase the carpet for the lounge but just not lay it.
  6. the rest is at my place hmmm, I had forgotten about it, perhaps a piece now?
  7. Yes well done. Its like the Gold Mountain Minnow fry I have, they were so tiny and are still growing very slowly.
  8. Thank you to everyone who came along tonight. I was delighted to meet two gentlemen whom I had not met before. The food was yummy!
  9. Is it a filter with power head in the tank and the water trickles back in overhead?
  10. Could be lots of reasons - age, ammonia, fin rot, some infection. With betta purchased from shops it is hard to tell their age - those pictures of yours suggest he was a minimum of 7 months old as had full finnage. To be honest, betta in captivity do not last for years and years like other fish, occasionally you will get one that lives past 2, but I would expect their life span to be a max of 13 months. When you clean out the filter rinse it with tank water, not tap water. My filters hold multiple layers of sponges and filter material and I only ever clean out 1/3 at any time, using water I am taking out of the tank. It rinses out the gunge but leaves enough bacteria in there to stop an ammonia spike.
  11. :rotf: you two are seriously funny!
  12. what brand is your light fitting?
  13. A reminder that the August AFA meeting is tomorrow night, 14 August starting 7.30pm. Its a Pot Luck Dinner as well and will include a slide show of the various aquariums and aquatic life seen on my trip overseas. Membership cards for the 2012 -2013 year are available at the meeting. I also have several surplus tank lids in various sizes and condition if anyone wants them. The meeting is at my place, 26C Mt St John Ave, Epsom. As we live inside a school site please contact me for directions as to how to find my house. See you tomorrow night! Adrienne
  14. Godly3vil - thats really good info you have given in your reply. Filters - depends on your budget. I run the cf cannisters on most of my tanks with no issues but the quietest external filter I run is a sunsun - I think you can still pick them up new off trade me for around $90. The minimum turnover you require is 4x the tank size so 800lph but always go for something larger, more filtration is better and also generally the turnover rating on the filter is without media slowing it. Anything between 1000-1600lph is good imo. The type of feature fish I have in my lounge tank is my husbands choice as it was a trade off between the type of fish he likes which I traded off against the amount of time I spend in the back shed on my other tanks. Fortunately he likes discus, although I still have to say I would rather have Africans. I get to do my thing while he looks at the discus, however I still have to maintain the tank.

Before I read this post I was thinking exactly the same thing about the puffers causing the other fish to jump. I have kept them and the two original ones I had were fine together but they killed off the 4 new additions.
  16. Post Haste and you can pay when you drop the fish off. You dont have to buy pre paids. Oh no sucked in  this was a 2006 post!!
  17. are the angels harassing the gourami. vertical sounds like it might be swim bladder.
  18. Oh they lived in them fine, but breed, no way!
  19. I would be assuming Wee is taking it to the depot this afternoon.
  20. Your tank looks awesome. I have the same issue - my husband has stopped working evenings and doesn't work nearly as long on a Saturday. You might have to trade time to do your thing with the fish against taking her out for the evening!
