  1. Palmers and/or Kings Plant barn have Daltons aquatic mix. Personally I wish I hadn't used it in my tank, makes cleaning so much harder. I would rather use flourish excel but its everyone to their own preference really.

    New Tank

not yet - had to pay for a new computer, a new tele and have to pay off some mortgage first plus hubbys got his eye on a new motorcycle  they'll be next on the list

    New Tank

they are from discus guru and one from his friend
  4. thats what I've been hoping Ron. the only other thing it can be is perhaps they did survive from the previous spawn and if they haven't been fed for a week or just over are still really tiny, they may have just been existing on the water. Do they look like the fry pic I posted as they are only 2-3 days old.

    New Tank

Time to put some more pics of my tank up. As you'll see I've moved things around a bit. The swords are taking a while to grow but part of that is due to me removing the leaves that are covered in algae. Dosing flourish excel nightly is helping the growth a bit. Still working out what else to put in with them they just looove their bloodworms
  6. Ron suggested planaria - I don't actually know what that looks like, but he certainly will. In the meantime just wait and see what happens in the tank, you never know what you'll end up with IMO.
  7. Okay - take the exact time you put them in together, if it was an instant spawn and it does happen, believe me, add 25 hours which would be the minimum time for a hatch if the room is warm as well as the tank. You would need several hours (like about 20-24) for them to start to swim by themselves. I don't believe that the father fighter would be ignoring them if they were his fry. I am also sure that you would have seen him tending to the nest and eggs at some stage as he needs to keep them clean in order to stop any fungus happening. I don't think that what you see are fighter fry, at least not from this lot and if the water did really get cold - as opposed to get really cold - then they wouldn't be from an earlier lot. I have just put another pair of mine together and will try and document their progress for you to look at. At the moment she is very stroppy and keeps flying at him but she is a real tart at the best of times anyway
  8. Is this the tank that you tried a spawn in the other time? If so did you leave the water and heater in there all the time in between. I'm thinking that maybe these are from the previous spawning. If they are they will not have grown a huge amount if they haven't been fed specifically for them. It is not possible for this to happen in such a short a time at all.
  9. No leave him there, he may be better than you think. You'll need to get her out though if you haven't already. They must have spawned immediately they were put together and he must have blown the bubble nest later. Leave him with them for another 24 hours and then carefully remove him as well making sure he doesn't have fry in his mouth when you do so.
  10. if you look at the bubblenest side on if there are hatched fry in there you will see what looks like fine cotton threads hanging down. These are the tails. The heads are normally up in the bubbles. Can you borrow a magnifying glass or something like binoculars to magnify what you see.
  11. If they spawned immediately it is possible that they may have started to hatch, but they wouldn't be darting around, more like sinking down. The male would be picking them up in his mouth and spitting them back into the nest. If that is the case he won't want the female anywhere near him. I think its more likely there is something else in the water. Can you get a pic and post it or email it to me and I'll post it for you.
  12. If they spawned immediately they were put in it is possible they have hatched. In this case the male will want the female out of it. He will be picking up the fry and spitting them back up into the nest constantly. Can you get a pic or something? Even if you don't know how to post the picture email it to me and I'll have a look and post it for you.
  13. Okay - I think I did very well here. Had to put a magnifying glass on the outside of the tank and then take a photo through it. This is what they look like. To give you some guide as to their size the brown things in the pic are empty brine shrimp shells. The fry are minute at this stage. You would be luck for them to be as long as the head is in this picture when they hatch.
  14. Your time frame doesn't seem right for fry. It takes a minimum of 24 hours for fry to hatch, they look like grass seeds when they do. Another 24-48 hours for them to start free swimming - darting around as such. How long exactly have you had the male and female together in the tank? And I do mean together, not seperated by anything. I'll go see if I can get a pic of my fry which hatched this week but I don't think the camera will be able to pick them up. They are just free swimming.
  15. her nudging his side is the sign that she is ready to spawn and the touching is encouraging him to wrap around her. you will probably have had them spawn by now as its well into the day time. let us know how you got on.
  16. I thought Prazi worked best for intestinal worms. pm me for where to get it if you don't already know
  17. Somewhere most probably looking at her, most of mine do have some going back a bit when I was trying to created a decent crowntail line.
  18. right - I have resized and will put these on again. Some of my cts and vts. Should be easy enough to tell the difference. ]
  19. Ummm... I'll give it a go but someone - and no ones owning up - left the back door to the shed open during the week and I have algae blooms in my tanks from the through sunlight they got during the day It won't be the best shot but I need to post some pics anyway as the others I posted during the week were too big and I got a telling off....
  20. wouldn't go for a 'pair' of kribs i.e. male and female or you'll end up with too many for the tank.
  21. Thats not many tiny ones at the moment, just let nature take its course for another couple of weeks as when they start to air breathe you may lose some anyway. Once they get to about 5-6 weeks you will need to seperate out the bigger ones otherwise the smaller ones won't be able to get food.
  22. A good number then. How much difference in sizes between the biggest and the smallest and what size tank are they in at the moment?
  23. How many do you think you have?
  24. Oh maybe not then. I didn't realise that you had had two males. My female was from Ron. This may work out quite well then if we can get two different unrelated lines going.
  25. I've seen the odd killifish in tanks at the pet shops but they have always been in with guppies and have never been labelled. They have been females as well - never seen a live male yet!
