  1. yippee - they hatched yesterday afternoon and over night and appears to be a reasonable number. I imagine that they will be in some way related to fish_fingers spawn as I think the males were probably related. Heres hoping!
  2. Being pretty blunt here but that is not nearly enough tank space if you are intending to breed fighters. You can't control how many fry you will get, could be several hundred. If they make it past the first 3-4 weeks you will need some big tanks or many jars particularly if the majority are males. On average I use 1-2 4ft tanks as growout tanks per spawn. I keep my mature males in another 4ft which can accomodate up to 50 containers and I also cull pretty heavily so only the best get to grow on past about 9-10 weeks.
  3. how much do you need and are they to weigh the plants down as I have some here that I have no use for anymore.
  4. Do you have any spare big i.e. 4ft but not too high tanks?
  5. Are you going to have individual containers in a heated room for the young males?
  6. Yep, can handle it for an hour or so and then I turn as green as the greenest seaweed!
  7. Are you talking about the sponge filter that has the black cylindrical sponge on the end and the airline tubing hooks onto it? The bubbles come out the end of the plastic that runs up the inside of the sponge? Not a very good description I know.. I have a spare one here if you let me have your address that I'm happy to send to you. The sponge has been used before but I just reuse them and sterilise them after each use. That way they last for ages.
  8. I like boats and I like fishing but I can't handle fishing in bobbing boats!!!!
  9. are these your yellows? if the problems solved it will be well worth the money. I still have about 10 from the originals I got from you but think they are all females. I onsold the rest as I ran out of room.
  10. we'll see Ron - for all I know he'll eat them.
  11. My yellows spawned today, put them in the tank yesterday, let her out last night. I was at work and when I came home this afternoon there were eggs in the nest. Now we'll see what sort of dad he is.
  12. Heres some pics of some of my previous males from early last year and the end of the year before - They are the results of a ct/vt cross. A large variety of tails and even still I get the odd ones with different tail shapes from my developed ct line. Your pics are too large. See your PM. Bill Mod
  13. Lol - how many do you want, let me see now....... sorry will have to pull these and resize as requested when I find a computer I know how to work.
  14. Caryl - a dragon haven't you looked at her halo lately

    fighters

this article is a good guide to beginning breeding. You won't get a successful spawn with more than one male and female in a tank. You also need to be prepared and have room to raise possibly hundreds of fry, and a good chance that the majority will be males requiring individual jarring from a relatively young age. Breeding fighters is not something you should enter half heartedly ... mind you thats the same with breeding anything!
  18. The pic that you posted Cam is not of a true ct female, doesn't show enough ray extensions, it will have some ct in it. I have a lot like that but my true ct females have way more in the way of rays on both their tails and fins. If you go on with the pair you have take the two best of each sex and work with them until you get what you want bearing in mind that it takes 4-6 months for a fighter to reach breeding age all going well. I find cts hard work to breed and raise, much harder than veiltails.
  19. won't be a problem turning it off at night if you want then as long as the fish don't head for the surface.
  20. what are you after - fish or aquarium filters etc as some of those on the list are one or the other and several I've never heard of - not to say they aren't actually up here.
  21. hi, whats the air pump driving i.e. a filter or an airstone?
  22. not sure but on some of my very mature males when they swim down towards the tank they appear to have an eggs tube - think it must be something else though I'll take a pic the next time I'm out there with my camera and you can have a looksee
  23. yep, definately looking rather good. Are you able to sex any yet going on the fin length. A bit too early to determine sex on the egg spot as at this age males can appear to have one too.
  24. nice solid colour male and she doesn't look too bad - the pics a bit small but she may have some ct in her by the look of the tail.
