  1. The Waikato Aquarium society is proud to present to the public an Aquatic Exhibition at the Hamilton Garden Pavillion on the weekend of 9-10 April starting at 9.30am thru till 5pm daily. The aim of the Expo is to showcase to the public the hobby of fishkeeping including live displays, aquatic retailers selling various products, educational displays and much more. We also has raffles with prizes from major retailers and suppliers throughout New Zealand. Entry is only a GOLD COIN and all are welcome. Please see the attached poster for more informationPUBLIC CHOICE AQUARIUM COMPETITIONAs part of the Aquatic we are having a New Zealands first public choice aquarium competition. The objective of this competition is to showcase different aquariums to educate the public about our hobby. Thanks to Wonderworld Aquarium and Pet Centre in Rotorua (http://www.wonderworldpetcentre.co.nz/) for generously sponsored a major prize to the value of $800 for the best public choice selected aquarium. To enter you must be a financial member of the Waikato Aquarium Society or any of the FNZAS affilated club. To enter please contact Dave Dalziel or Trevor Collins. Here are couple guidelines for those who may be interested in entering The aquarium must be stand alone preferably on a stand as this allows us to place aquariums in the best position for the show. Keep it simple so no bigger than 200ltrs as moving aquariums is not an easy task Supply your own multiboard to power your aquarium The tank must be set up before the doors open on Saturday 9th April at 9.30am. Those entering have Friday 8th April to set up their aquarium. Aquatic Expo Poster Final.pdf

  6. Hi all. Firstly I would like to thank our Club President Dave Dalziel for organising the molly hunt in Tokaanu last weekend. Dave's enthusiasm and commitment to club made this an enjoyable weekend. Hot pools were also great. It was a very enjoyable weekend and we also had other FNZAS members turn up. We also visited the Tongariro Trout Hatchery and for those who haven't been there I would highly recommend you go there. A bit wet and horrible weather but that didn't deter us from hunting mollys. Walking in the thermal swamp mud up to your knees was fun and there were hundreds of molly. I myself had some here at home and will be willing to pass them onto new homes once they have acclimatised and have grown. Plenty of photos on our Facebook page Also we will be having our October Tank crawl on Saturday 17th October so start preparing your tanks We will be having our September meeting on Thursday 1st October at the Waikato Commerce Club starting at 7PM. Please come along and support the club. Subject: Questions and Answers night. Come along with any questions you have and we will attempt to answer them. Usually on these nights we all learn a lot more about fish keeping. We will also have a sales table so bring along anything you want to sell. See you there Trevor Collins Secretary Waikato Aquarium Society
  7. Here you go everyone. Some info on the Great Molly Hunt organised by the Waikato Aquarium Society. Also info on the clubs Facebook page. Photos below are from a previous molly hunt Cheers Trevor Secretary Waikato Aquarium Society CLUB EVENT. All other FNZAS Clubs are invited also THE GREAT MOLLY HUNT Weekend 19-20 September at Tokannu This is shaping up to be a great weekend out even for the family. If you are not aware on the southern end of Lake Taupo near Tokannu in some of the geothermal heated swamps there are small populations of wild mollies. A few years ago members of our club and other FNZAS clubs had an eventful weekend getting into the muddy swamp and catching the mollies. So we have decided to do it again. We already have a few members coming plus others from other clubs. On Saturday on the way down we will be visiting the Prawn Farm just before Taupo and then the trout hatchery in Turangi. Most of us have booked accomodation at the Oasis Motel for Saturday night. (Ph 07 386 8569 to book.) I believe they are doing discount if you mention that you are part of this event. Accommodation is running out quickly so book now. There are hot pools also so bring your Togs. On Saturday we all intend to meet at the Prawn Park in Taupo at 10am where we will have a tour and go prawn fishing for our lunch Then the National Trout Centre just south of Turangi at 1pm for a tour of hatchery with Doc rangers. On Sunday we will head to the swamp and attempt to catch some mollies. Bring along some old clothes as you will get muddy, You will also need old shoes, net, bucket, chilly bin with portable air pump and plenty of enthusiasm. For more info go to our Facebook page "Events" section or contact our Club President Dave Dalziel on 021 146 5215.
