    Co2 Set-up

My husband has just purchased one for me from Ezitools New Zealand in Glenfield. It was $505 filled. Its a size D which is 6kg. They ship. Regulator I got from HFF Mt Roskill. The only thing I don't have is a solenoid. Not sure if the price is standard, expensive or anything else.
  2. does anyone need a lift from Aucks to Hamilton & return on Saturday or a pickup on the way (don't mind a small detour).
  3. IME snails come up when there is a lack of oxygen in the water.

    Ram Sickness

Yes I do think it is hit and miss if they survive or not. Ryanjury had the same problem keeping his alive that I did. Not sure if they had the pimple or not and he will no doubt post after he settles in to his new house up here

    Ram Sickness

mine died while the pimple was still there and the rest of the fish in the tank were fine - and still are, two years on.

    Ram Sickness

Yes I have - all my rams, both blue and gold died from it on their heads. No idea what caused it.
  8. Those photos are absolutely amazing! Beautiful looking healthy frogs.
  9. carefully  Sorry - I just couldn't help myself! Please let me know how you do end up doing it and if it was successful. I also would like to know.
  10. Well dad is still looking after the eggs although there don't seem to be many at all but I can put them together again if no success. As for the older ones I came home to about 20 dead this afternoon, mixed sizes. Not sure whats going on, could be the fact that they have started to come up for air and maybe the ventrals are not properly developed. However in my other tank with halfmoon fighters of the same age there were 8 dead in there as well.
  11. Not sure how big the piece of wood is but how about taking it out and putting it into a container. Then bring the temperature up to the new tank temp by adding some of the new tank water and once sorted place the wood and clown loach into it.
  12. I have a 3ft, 200+ litre tank with 10 shellies in it. They look lovely in the tank as a single species but watching them squabble and argue over their own territory i.e. shells and coral, there is no way I would add other types of fish to it. Single species tanks can look spectacular as you can see if you look through some of the posts. As its been said before - these fish are best on their own.
  13. Just for your information - the more bogwood you add the lower the pH is likely to go. Fish can handle changing pH, but they can not handle sudden dips and rises which are ongoing.
  14. another spawn this morning, once again in the community tank. I have scooped out dad and the nest and put them in another tank so hopefully they will hatch.
  15. Well they have offered to do something about it which is really pretty good . My advice to you is not to leave it much longer before you decide if you are going to return the fish or not.
  16. You can get the shells from Nosh - 48 shells for $25 or alternatively you can come around to me and I'll onsell you some of my surplus shells. It works out at just over 50c per shell. Sometimes you just have to face the facts that certain fish need to be in species only tanks. You should also read up on the fish you are about to purchase.
  17. my young fighters used to nip at my bn fry until they killed them.
  18. If you think that its finrot and it does sound like it and you have treated it with the more gentle remedies but it has returned I would go to furan2. It works against most bacteria and generally when finrot is on its second round it is likely to be bacterial, and a lot faster working. Its best to move the fish as you can use less sachets to treat. Furan2 has a warning as it has been found to cause cancer in mice etc so you need to be careful when using it. The belly of your fighter looks okay to me, the yellow sprinkles you are referring to could be small holes developing in the fins. If you look closely you may see a pinky red waterstain looking line up above where the fins and tail are tatty. That is a guaranteed sign of finrot, that is the next point where they will fray too and is definitely bacterial if it shows that. I would treat with furan2 which is a 4 day course, keep the water as clean as possible as well. I'm going on holidays today but good luck.
  19. I run the airline at night when my CO2 is off. If I don't all my fish are up gasping in the morning.
  20. Love it Zev I thought yum cha was mostly fish anyway. In fact what makes us think that we know what we are eating in any restaurant anywhere in the world (unless we chose the item live and watched it being cooked)
  21. Agreed and its actually not that uncommon. Basically they are just deformed fish. You could get some guppies of your own if you don't already own them and you never know, you may end up with your own siamese twins. These ones will never breed.
  22. My discus got to that stage as well in the community tank and then the harlequins ate the fry. Once I moved them they refused to spawn.
  23. I think you are right but there is plenty of information out there on the net. Yes, I know it sometimes conflicts but there is no excuse for ignorance. I never purchase fish without reading up on them first.
