    Furan

Not entirely sure where to post this but it seems most relevant to the diseases section. I have noticed the comment that 'furan' is too expensive to use in two posts of recent. Furan costs about $20 for a packet of either capsules or smaller packets. Personally, I think that if nothing else is working then about $20 is not much to pay in the scheme of things for a medication that may well keep your sick fish alive and return it to full health and also prevent it spreading to the rest of your fish. Would you rather have the satisfaction in knowing that you have saved a fish or do you feel its a cheaper option to let the sick fish die and then spend money to replace it? It up to you to decide , but I know which I would choose.
  2. I thought duck eggs had to be well cooked otherwise they make you sick i.e. great in christmas cakes but not as boiled eggs.
  3. Always a good idea to keep a written record of what has been said and said and who you have spoken to.
  4. My thoughts are that the boss probably has a good idea that something is not right. Why else would the longest serving worker not be 2ic (my thoughts only).
  5. if you want good long fins on your females and males keep the water incredibly clean otherwise they will start to curl. If the males have good strong rays and the females are pure ct you should get decent length fins and tail rays on the females.
  6. How big are they? They look pretty nice to me.
  7.     Dats between Josh and I
  8. How old are your discus? I think discus should grow at the rate of about 1cm per month but I may be wrong until they reach about 10 - 12cm in size. When they are small they need daily water changes and plenty of food. Mine are fed twice a day with tetra gold tropical granules and at night they also receive frozen bloodworm (1 cube per fish). They are always hungry and with discus hungry fish are a sign of healthy fish.
  9. very few though - they just come in randomly as halfmoons or delta tails. I seriously want a dragon male or female atm and I'm willing to pay big money for one. I've managed to grow up a few steel blues but generally they aren't that often seen. I saw a vt yesterday morning that was pretty close to steel blue.
  10. It was really nice to meet BD and antwon This morning, in my shed where I keep my fish were members of four different clubs - Neon (AFA), me (MAC), BD & Antwon (CTT) and myfishybusiness (Waikato) and his grandfather. It just shows how people get around
  11. hmmmm... perhaps I need to make the effort and go check my mailbox
  12. my friend who lives in Claremont Road has those as do some of her neighbours - it must have decided that living in town was a better option

    Hello all

Welcome - enjoy your time on the forums. There's quite a few of you out South East Auckland now.
  14. I'll do it for Sophia. She's not far from me
  15. No - the only spawns I have are in my tanks waiting to grow up a bit more - this is what they look like now at 10 weeks old.
  16. sounds really great - congratulations Hopefully I can get me some killies this coming weekend.
  17. Try posting this in the freshwater section - you will probably get a response as more people read it in my opinion. Given that this is not a disease there won't be any problems with you posting it there. I can't help as I have no idea at all
  18. He's definitely a giant with a body that deep. He may be gentle and if he does breed it will be worth having the fry in the country as well. 10 months old is getting on for breeding so I wouldn't wait too long if you are going to give it a go. How old is the daughter that you were given? Apparently they are supposed to grow to about 8cm.
  19. You probably know that I have giants as well as my ordinary fighters. I've purchased 3 over the last couple of years, the first one wouldn't breed and died after about 2 months. My yellow male which I purchased earlier this year is still going strong, I have had 2 spawns from him crossed with a female hm (not plakat) but he would only breed with one female and slaughtered every other female that came near him. His progeny are growing well and are showing both plakat and longfin hm traits. I have never, in the 3-4 months I have owned him, seen him eat a single scrap of food. The other giant male I purchased at the same time as him spawned once, promptly ate the eggs and then died quickly about 3 weeks later. I have been told that there is less than a 30% chance of successfully breeding from a giant as by the time they arrive here they are normally too old. I hope this is not the case. How big is he in cm and how deep is his body (top of back to under the belly area).
  20. My thoughts are with his family. I didn't know John personally but I heard great things about him.
  21. I don't know of any plakats being bought into the country in the last year that are not giants but then again I certainly don't know everything. I would think by the look of him that he is a giant. Find out from the shop if he was from the supplier or from a local breeder. He looks very nice. I have found that giants are harder to keep than standard fighters.
  22. Looks good. You've done a heap of work in there in the short time since you shifted. Am looking forward to seeing it this weekend hopefully.
  23. Yes I do use it but I use hatched bbs for several months. I find that too much decap and they tend to become belly sliders.
