  1. Thanks guys for your replies, I think i will put this down to other fish killing them, which is a bugger really cause i wish i figured that out 50 Briss's ago
  2. I had wondered about the Gold spot because he is so shy and only comes out at night and its in the morning when i find dead briss's. they look healthy and well fed no visible diseases just a stiff dead corpse no visible bite marks. the amonia and nitrite levels are all good i check them regularly as well as Ph
  3. Hi everyone, About 8-10 months ago my 2 adult females and 1 adult male did there jobs and i wound up with close to 60 fry, ok its probably understandable if a couple die young but now 8-10 months later i have 5 yes 5 i have searched high and low on things that might kill them and everyone says they are really hardy. but day after day week after week the numbers drop till i'm left with 5 one died yesterday. I have a 200 litre tank with a canister filter and spray bar, driftwood i got from hollywood, long airstone. plants. my water tests are all good i change 25 to 50 percent every 1 to 2 weeks. other fish i have are gold spot pleco only the adult male briss lives (one female got stuck between the glass and the intake of the filter and i found her dead next morning) Zebra danio platties Peppered cory's Tiger barbs I feed them courgette maybe once a fortnight and everyday i feed them pleco chips plus they get the left overs from the other fish. at first i thought it was my very aggro female algae eater so i put her in another tank by herself, but no they are still dying. any suggestions would be great thanks
  4. Thanks guys for all your advice. I know what you mean Fishplants I would be a nervous wreck too, sometimes its just a case of which fish are hardier than the other and it looks as though BN are hardy(thank god) cause i love my bottom dwellers, i actually prefer them to ordinary swimming fish.
  5. It seems that the discoloration is fading. Do they have the ability to change color ??
  6. I'll see if i can get one he's pretty shy
  7. Hi everyone, i'm not sure if this is the right section because i'm not sure if he is sick or what. this evening i noticed that my male adult bristlenose(about 2 years old) has a band of pale almost white coloration around his middle (like a cumberbund you wear with a tux). all my water stats are fine, temp is sitting aroung 25c. 200 ltr tank the thing is that some of my bristlenose babies started losing color and then died they were about 8 months old. he dosnt seem sluggish or anything he still eats fine, i feed them courgette every once in a while and every day i put in pleco chips. do you all think he is sick or is this something else any ideas ? thanks
  8. Now that they have been separated for one day the white is starting to show so im thinking you must be right and they are just white mollys. although its very strange that they can reproduce without a male, i wonder if thats a species survival thing for in the wild, cause that would almost ensure that they would never become extinct. thanks for all the replies you guys have been really helpful.
  9. That is something i didnt know, isnt the animal kingdom forever amazing us humans !
  10. couldnt have been pregnant when i got her because she was the only surviving fry from my origional male and female mollys that i bought, which have been dead for 6 months or so
  11. Hi all. I have a 200 litre tropical tank with cherry barbs, Platys, Bristlenoses, Tiger Barbs, Zebra Danios, one big brown Female algae eater and 1 large adult female white Molly. this afternoon my daughter and i watched amazed as the molly gave birth to about 12 fry !! how can this be there is no male molly, so i wondered about cross breeding. Have any of you heard of mollys cross breeding with any of the above fish ? i know its not gonna be the bristlenose. but was wondering about survival rates, and whether live bearers can cross breed with egg layers. what should i feed the fry ? at present they are dark coloured and some white Thanks
  12. many thanks to all who replied. i have dialed down the temp to the minimum 22c and the heater is now on the back of the tank whereas i had it on the right side opposite the temp gauge this seems to have solved things. first thing in the morning the temp is hovering around 24c then as the day wears on it comes up to 27.2c which i think is an ok temp for platties and tetras algae eaters thanks again
  13. Hi all I have a Jebo r338 40 litre tank which has a light hood and trickle filter my problem is that my thermometer is showing 28.1 degrees celsius and then my heater turns on this is way to hot as my heater is a jebo 2010 100w and i have it set at 22 degrees celsius the heater warms the water upto about 29 degrees then turns off as soon as the water temp drops to 28.1 on it comes again i think the temp should be around 27 degrees please advise thanks
  14. please advise if anyone knows about the product recall of the above aquariums. below is the article found on a chinease site other sites also mention this recall but it is all on hong kong sites . Do you think it applies to NZ models as well ? if yes what do i do ? Recall of JEBO aquarium lighting models ***************************************************** The Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD) today (April 2) urged consumers to stop using five models of JEBO aquarium lighting for safety reasons. A recent safety test by the department revealed that the internal ballasts of JEBO aquarium lighting, of model numbers R331, R338, R352KG, R362KG and R375KG, might have an overheating problem during use, posing a fire hazard risk to users. The supplier, Carkey Aquarium Limited, has initiated recall of the concerned aquarium lighting. and recall notices were posted in newspapers today. According to the supplier, the aquarium lighting was supplied to the local market between May, 2005, and November, 2007. For details of the recall, consumers should contact the supplier's hotlines on 2432 0880 or 2406 9992. Ends/Wednesday, April 2, 2008 Issued at HKT 11:44 http://www.info.gov.hk/gia/general/2008 ... 020108.htm
