  1. Sophia, if you want to test the tank to see if its safe I have some surplus fish here that you could use.
  2. I am certain they can go with pygmy cory as I have seen them in other tanks.
  3. Sheepsnana - before you write off some of the fish you have listed above due to the google images of them, may I suggest you use the search function on this forum. I have seen some stunning hongsloi in NZ fishkeepers tanks and I am pretty certain there will be photos on here.
  4. Only if he's the father of the fry :rotf:
  5. Put another airline in as well if you have one available - the only time my snails have ever gone to the top is when the oxygen levels are low and the tank is out of whack. I have spare airpumps here if you need one. IMO - if they have been poisoned you are not going to lose anything by doing a full water change - at least the toxins will be out of the water and that is going to be less damaging to their systems. Just watch out for a likely ammonia spike in 7-10 days time if you do it. Good luck.
  6. Aside from being able to access your results online, have any of you received anything in the mail as yet?
  7. I've kept puffers as well. I had a pair and added 4 more. They were fine until the original pair decided that they liked to snack on the others in the dark of night.
  8. he inflated and deflated fine as a breeder told me as a last resort to try and he has gained his old self back as well as color and can swim longer while the rest still is the same, the lungs have deflated and breathing a little slower It is this bit I don't understand - he has gained his oldself back ............... while the rest is still the same so is he better now or not?
  9. It was just after Animates took over from Jansens that the saltwater disappeared.
  10. Your post has me totally confused as it does not seem to make sense. Would you mind writing it again with full stops and capital letters? Then I may be able to help. Thanks
  11. Give me a pm next time you are up and if I can I will happily take you on a tour. I have only been to 1 shop once in the last 4 months.
  12. So much 'Up" here I can hardly keep 'Up" with it Son left Auckland today to live and work in Ashburton DD1 has today started a new job in the city DD2 passed NCEA Level 3 - missed only 1 paper (will never know how as no work done all last year) Hubby and I had our Yellow Fever and Typhoid Vaccinations today - now to wait 3-10 days to see if a reaction sets in
  13. Agreed - As FNZAS Treasurer it is good to know who we are supposed to contact.
  14. whoops - my apologies Graeme C - I will amend the post  next time I will put my glasses on
  15. Hi - this link has the club details http://www.fnzas.org.nz/?cat=10 The club is affiliated to the FNZAS which means that when you join the club, $10 of your subs are sent to the federation to help fund the website and magazine which you will receive quarterly. You will also receive added access to the fishroom
  16. To be honest, if you don't have need to travel to a particular area of Auckland then you will not know. Even though I have now lived in Auckland (near CBD) for 15 years, I would be pushed to explain over the phone to someone how to get there. As Sophia said thats what google maps are for or there is an alternative, a good old map book. Now back to topic - I would aim for HFF, Mt Roskill and Pupuki (over the bridge). I have not visited either Aqua World or Aqua Village. There are the Animates shops but they do vary in quality, depending on who is working there - if its a knowledgable fish keeper then they can be pretty good.
  17. You do realise that you can achieve level 3 NCEA but still not get University Entrance unless you have enough numeracy and literacy credits?
  18. Do you ever come up to Aucks. I have twisted val and could spare you a few plants but it doesn't travel terribly well in the post I find. Also have a few tiger lotus plus the odd other little plant I could spare.
  19. No I haven't given up on fighters - I had a total hip replacement in October and am heading overseas shortly so will not be starting back on them seriously until mid year. There are a couple of serious breeders around still but due to varying circumstances they have had to take a break for a while. The theft did put me off, but I received overwhelming support from one source (you know who you are). Yes, the market was well overloaded with them and a lot of them were and still are, crappy looking fish. I know of lots of people who tried to breed their so called crowntails and halfmoons and came up with awful looking fish, this has put them off trying as fighter breeding is labour intensive. Its hard for people to understand that because there are so few females that come in with anything other than veil tails you need to breed several spawns to get a really good line going. It requires dedication and you need to be prepared to cull the majority of your spawn rather than on sell anything that is not good.
  20. I think its possibly her age although I know that there are cases of them living for a lot longer. Are you able to or have you added an air line to your tank to add or oxygen to the water or alternatively if you can move the filter so that it creates more surface movement that will also help.
  21. I believe there are people with them however can you blame them for keeping it quiet? Email communications would be the best way to go among those with these. If I had them (which I very definitely do not), I would not publicise this due to the number of break ins I have had over the last couple of years.
  22. Well I have to give the seller 10 out of 10. I logged the first query followed by some other fishroom members and they have changed the title of the advert to the correct plec name.
  23. Hi and welcome to the fishroom. Introduce yourself in the welcome section and tell us all about your tanks. We enjoy having new fish keepers join us! Without a bottle of the methylene blue at hand I can not tell you if the instructions were correct however yes, the blue will stain any silicone or airline hosing you have in the tank. The instructions on the bottle are the ones you need to follow to get maximum gain from using it. What sort of plecs do you have? Did you tell the fish shop what other fish are in the tank? You need to err on the side of caution with scaleless fish like plecs.
  24. Some articles in the AW on Natives would be fantastic. Because the AW reaches a lot of fishkeepers that do not partake of this forum I am certain it would enthuse them to keep natives as well. I myself are keen but don't want to kill the fish through ignorance and I like instructions on paper with diagrams and photos to look at
  25. Yay to getting a job!! Now you can have more money to spend on fish things. :sml1:
