  1. I think that you would have to be exeptionally careful that any leftovers were suctioned out immediately. You have bare bottom tanks?
  2. ah yes, still waiting for the November one!! tut tut!
  3. Removal companies do not like carrying anything that is made completely from glass. We are in the process of having a china cabinet brought up from christchurch and because the front corners are glass they have insisted that a crate be made for it.
  4. He lives near the beach so hopefully he's using the real stuff. Me thinks I will need to come for a drive for a nosey at your place shortly

    Hello!

Must be you MarkLB - I can see it fine. May be internet issues.
  6. Just read this but may be too late - I think the council has a service for this sort of thing.
  7. Living Art = Vital Grin and I believe its right - Living Art has a great grin and smile
  8. Got home from my first day back at work and I can assure you that it did not happen. Instead there was stuff everywhere :an!gry Anyway Happy Chinese New Year to you all. There were very loud fireworks near here last night.
  9. I tried it and it worked Immortal, odd lover
  10. Furan2 is available from most specialist fish shops ie Hollywood Fish Farm and I believe Animates also stocks it. Some smaller pet stores may have it as well. I am a very firm believer that drugs created for human use should not be dispensed to animals for the very reason Alanmin has stated. Normally in NZ, if you require a vet to prescribe antibiotics you need to take the fish in to them along with all the paperwork you can find to support your request for medications.
  11. Want something inane to keep you occupied - try this link http://deanjackson.dj/nameanagram/index.php?n=
  12. http://www.free-clipart-pictures.net/free_clipart/dragon_clipart/dragon_clipart_5.gif I don't have a facility on this computer to download the image and paste it to here. I will have to do it another day.
  13. If they are not on the 'allowed list' then they are not legally allowed in the country. Therefore if you know the name of a fish and it is not on the list then it is illegal. Why do you want to know what is illegal - there would be literally 1000's of fish in this category. One thing to remember though - just because they are on the allowed list it does not necessarily mean that they have been or are in the country. Some of these fish are very expensive and would have such a small market that it is not viable for importers to bring them in to NZ.
  14. I am not certain you are aware just how restricted NZ fish keepers are with what sort of medications are available for fish. There is an extremely limited selection of legally imported remedies here in New Zealand and it is very hard to find a Veterinarian who has sufficient knowledge of aquatic creatures, let alone get them to prescribe something for a fish. I see you have tested your ammonia levels. Have you checked your pH, nitrates and nitrites. While I don't necessarily think these are the issue it is possible that your fish were carrying something when you purchased them and the stress of being moved may have triggered it. Google this - columnaris disease - and see what you think. Furan 2 is the best non scripted medication available for bacterial infections.
  15. It has come to my attention that a number of clubs have members for whom I have not yet received capitations. With the next Aquarium World due out shortly would the club Secretary/Treasurer or whomever is charged with this responsibility please attend to this. In order for your members to be assured of receiving the February Aquarium World payment would be appreciated before the end of this month - January 2012. Members will also be sent their membership cards once payment is received - these cards can give members up to 10% discount at selected aquatic/pet shops. Footnote - Capitations are to be paid for the financial year in which they are received. All club members are required to be capitated. Thanks a lot for your assistance.
  16. Chinese New Year festivities commenced today in Auckland with stalls, rides and entertainment at the Auckland Showgrounds. My family and I went down for the first time ever and it was really packed. Walking through the aisle with all the food stalls was very reminiscent of walking through the streets of Asia. The smells, crowds and sounds were identical! It was worth going to have a look. I think I will go to some of the other events being held over the next week.
  17. Have you ever been snorkelling or diving at Leigh? While there are not nearly as many fish near shore as there used to be before feeding them was banned there are still an impressive no. to be seen if you snorkel out towards Goat Island. Warning - if you can not swim or snorkel safely take care. People have been known to die here while snorkelling. There can be quite strong currents.
  18. Total $1,163.91 The increased amount is made up solely of interest. We are still taking donations, even small amounts but if you are in NZ please send a cheque or use online banking as Paypal costs us a large amount in fees. http://www.fnzas.org.nz/?p=1304
  19. There is some really valuable reading on the BioSecurity website if you care to have a look.
  20. Just one thing - I haven't read right through the thread again but has anyone mentioned to you that you will need a filter that won't suck them in. I assume you have see how tiny they are in the shops.
  21. Are your arms long enough for a tank this high or are you just intending to climb in when it needs the bottom cleaned.?
  22. Did you give the tank and equipment a good scrub and clean up before you set it up? Its possible there was something in it.
