  1. have you checked the TDS of your water? yes you should probably up the flow too.
  2. I had a 4ft planted tank, and was lighting that with just 2x30W 4ft tubes. The fish had Waaay better colour and Anubias and Java Fern thrived (ie doubled in size every couple of months).
  3. of course you can always buy second-hand too... I have an Aquamedic T-1000 at the moment, which I bought second-hand for $200. Its more than enough for my 3 footer and could easily skim a way bigger tank (Like Kevans for example). You can't really go wrong with second-hand eheim 1260's if you check they go well, and you can get them for about $90 each second hand. The only thing I have struggled to buy second hand are powerheads. I think I have spent about $500 on powerheads for my tank because decent second-hand ones hardly come up for sale.
  4. where did you get the photo from? i recall seeing that tank before? Perhaps it is one of Amano's- The site you got it from could possibly indicate what it is- i don't have a clue sorry
  5. School of Banggais won't work, they will Pair up and killthe others off. In a tank your size that will probably result in 2 fish remaining

  7. Some of us actually have Uni etc and are not meant to be reading forums
  8. Yes but we were more informative!
  9. CO2 is Carbon dioxide- used by plants. See- http://www.wetwebmedia.com/plantedtkssu ... agfaqs.htm Nano just means small- Taking an everyday example an ipod nano is a small ipod. A nano tank is usually about 20 Litres or Less (but more than 2 L otherwise it becomes a Pico tank.)
  10. Same here, although I don't have that much time, doing stage 3 uni
  11. How do you know that? Have they successfully spawned in a RSM?
  12. you would need a deep tank to breed mandarins wouldn't you?
  13. At home I currently don't have much. I do have a pet White tail Spider though. At work i have a few Natives/ Introduced species, like Vagrants, Tunnelwebs, Avondales, Mantids, Crickets, Roaches (both Gizzie and American), Locusts, Flies, Fruit flies, 4 Beehives, Backswimmers and a few other things...
  14. Do you have the dimensions of the tank? Unless your tank is pretty much a cube (80x80x80), I cannot see how the tank volume can be 400 to 500 Litres.
  15. Did I not show you my 4 tank locust setup Buldogood. I use those 500 ml Huhtamaki cups.
  16. Wrong way around. It is harder to get soaps and detergents to bubble (forgotten the technical term) if the water is hard. it wouldn't be a very scientific way of testing the water hardness because of course it would be a qualitative verus a quantitative analysis and there will be other variables which can distor the result . easier just to buy a gh testkit methinks
  17. You're back Jo!!! with a beautiful Puppy too I see! How's things?
  18. As repto says. Use vermeculite instead of sand as it holds the moisture better
