With the right temp and light it will grow quite quickly.

They work very well but are not necessary unless as stated you have a green water or disease problem such as whitespot.

I have 2 uv filters 1 was used for approx 2 months and the other is still unused.

You can see into the bottom of the 1200's, do not know what it is eating but the point being as to how long a filter will effectively work before maintenance is required.

I have 2x 1200 aquaone filters on my 550L Gold nugget which have not been touched for over 6 months without any probs. I also have another aquaone which a baby guppy got into over 6 months ago and it is a full grown male still inside the filter.

Even the nat. aquarium are picky I had to twist there arm to take mine.

I would like views on what is the best food for guppies please.

most of my tanks have sand and I have no probs with gunk.(I think it tends to sit on top).

Why not try your local paint sprayer the filter wool they use is excellent and works out a lot cheaper.

From memory I think it is more like 2gms per litre.

I use filter wool and get my arms wet, it works way better than the magnetic ones which in my experience pick up small particles that scratch the glass.
