  1. nails won't help in particle board/mdf, use screws. i would an an extra support in the middle, even a single post type support at the front & back will be beneficial.
  2. i expect that in a few years he will also think a 90L is tiny
  3. GAE are brilliant for keeping the tank clean once they are bigger, only thing is i found they interfere with the fish breeding. the one i had in a 200L tank kept it sparkling once it reached around 8cm or so which didn't take long at all & they seemed to like the african food to.
  4. lids also stop thing getting into the tank, got a cat?
  5. you have pukeko around there? there are puk chicks about, maybe one got lost.
  6. i have pukeko & squawker birds (spur winged plover) in the surrounding paddocks that like to create a racket at night but neither of those sound like the kiwi call.
  7. my trophs are going nuts, funny you say that though. i am sure they breed in cycles, last year all of the malawis i had would breed steadily for some parts of the year & not others.
  8. for us amateurs, is this a tort or turt?
  9. i would feed NLS cichlid formula, JBL Novorift or Sera Granumeat or Granugreen. All of these are very good.
  10. you could soak it in a bucket or whatever is big enough for it until it gets water logged.
  11. the wood is going to lower the ph.....
  12. you will need to weigh it down with something until it soaks up enough way to stay down. maybe rocks or similar?
  13. then maybe some things may not go up by that much to, if something is cost plus 12.5% & rounded up to the next number, now it's cost plus 15% the number rounded to may not be that far from current if you catch my positive take on it.
  14. GST has risen 2.5%, so for every $100 you spend you are paying an extra $2.50..... so for every $250 you spend at the pub/clubs that means approx one less drink you can have. I don't think it's too bad & the lesser amount of income tax actually means the average person will have more $ at the end of the week. glass half full or half empty?
  15. i disagree, clipping one of their wings stops them from getting over fences. If the fences are good they will keep them out as long as they cannot get over them. They are clever indeed.
  16. scissors, it's real easy. just cut them but not really short.
  17. great skills, well done.
  18. i disagree, i currently have hens from chicks & they are not scared of us so walk inside when door is left open etc. The amount of eggs produced does reduce slightly each year, i was getting 4 eggs from 3 hens & that was their second year of laying. that is also sometimes to do with what food they are getting to. wild chickens, as in not being kept as pets are best IMO for free ranging.
  19. they would have been "end of lay" birds so they will go off the lay completely for a short time then start again. Ours layed a few eggs when we first got them then stopped for around 6 weeks IIRC then straight back to produced an egg a day.
