  1. we feed ours around 700g of pellets per day plus the house hold scraps & they spend the rest of the day finding their own, we have approx 15 hens though.
  2. welcome back with couriering fish easily done these days the stocking isn't necessarily limited to your area. Any idea what you want to keep?
  3. how are you planning on keeping them? if free range i DO NOT recommend shavers. They are the biggest pain of a chicken in that situation as they will spend all their time trying to get into your house rather than searching for food. Myself & two other friends have had the very same issue, i believe it is apparent as they haven't learnt to find food properly as chicks. I suggest orpingtons, they seem to lay well & get the picture when they are not welcome. I also have silkies & they seem to lay ok, i don't believe there are better layers than shavers but mine ended up in the pot as we could not put up with them anymore so their egg production dropped dramatically. cage birds use shavers, free range i think the orpingtons are best as they also can't get their big buts over the fence & into our garden which the silkies easily clear.
  4. small charge for entry to yours David? 8)
  5. i agree with matt, IME the behavior you have described never directly resulted in fry. When a male is trying to get a female to breed there is lots of chasing but not usually round & round in circles, if they did it wouldn't be for long as the female will try to escape.
  6. they are brilliant, reminds me of the Richard Hammond Series currently running.
  7. i think you will find it's not cataracts rather a fungus or grazing of the cornea or outer layer of the eye which is why a water bound treatment will fix it. a cataract is a clouding of the crystaline lens inside the eye.
  8. that word got me a warning & mine was a copy & paste error.
  9. now how would YOU do that stella?
  10. not cool but this is part of the animal world. i would think that if she was bit leaving that would have meant she realised she was in trouble, don't think that shows which cat started it although the chances are very high it was the tom.
  11. if your running a sump there must be an overflow? then it doesn't matter how much you blow the crud around it will still be there unless it gets blown up to & over the overflow panel, correct? i would add a canister so it can suck the crud from the bottom of the tank.
  12. i live there Dive tutukaka takes you out to the poor nights, top 5 or 10 in the world is it not?
  13. in northland, especially in summer i would head to dargaville & go north up the west coast & see Tane Mahuta & the three sisters etc & go onto opononi & omapere. if your into massive sand dunes that is the place to be. carry on over the ferry at rawene & onto taipa, coopers beach & mangonui & down to kerikeri & paihia. it's a fantastic area of the country in summer, just be security conscious.
  14. can it be reinstated & locked so others can understand what is going on?
  15. when i get fry i initially put them into the nets that have suction cups, i use a small square one & recently got a large one. they ate very small tanks inside existing setups. I did discover that adult africans would come up to the bottom of the net & suck the fry to the bottom & bite/crush them through the netting so i cut up an ice cream container lid & inserted it to stop that. I don't know if your fish will do that but could be worth doing.

    Hi, back at last.

in the famous words of Richie Benaud, "Welcome Back!"
  17. how do the sweeds taste?
  18. borrow or hire a van would most likely be cheaper than shipping? other than that contact a furniture removal company.
  19. i read an post about an african that got dropsy, the guy had a 3 foot tank with no fish so he put it in there thinking it would die & then forgot about it. he remembered it a few days later & it was perfectly healthy, looked as if there was never a problem. he put it down to good water quality, there was no lighting at all or tank mates.
  20. i have it & over feed africans, if you set up enough flow toward the filter pickup it should get most of it. if you can't then when you do a water change gravel vac your tank.
  21. the clowns throw out their spines when they are captured, i have had a spike in the finger & not pleasant at all. i would have thought the RTG would have had a good spiking from the clown on the way down so expect there is some damage but the fact that it is eating must be a good thing. i would continue to feed what its eating so it keeps up it's strength. i guess the only way you will know for sure is by examining it's throat, good luck with that maybe there are meds suitable?
  22. i had a yellow like that once & it was from aggression.
