  1. interesting indeed. for me i would like to see more tropheus moorii but that simply comes down to $. they are already on the list so it must only be the fact no one including myself has approached an importer, through our lfs with a very large wad of cash to bring in rainbows or similar which i suspect will be the same reason the importers have not brought them in themselves without up front sales, the elusive wad of cash.
  2. IIRC when i kept angels they did that, especially when trying to assert dominance or entice breeding.
  3. all of the 3D backgrounds i have seen have been made with poly so maybe getting some info on how to be successful with a poly one is the key.
  4. possibly waiting for a reply to this?
  5. sunrise, you may need to to rethink the way you post things. maybe ask questions instead of posting like this, be a little cautious if you are unsure about something. perhaps in this case, you could have posted a thread "Are tadpoles on TM common?" or similar rather than the "look what i found" for something really common which i am sure was a surprise to you being there. this way you won't be sticking your head up to be taken shots at if you get what i mean, just take a bit more time to think before you post.
  6. it is really weird that it isn't working. a couple of times my power head didn't go when plugged in, i took it off the bracket in the tank & gave it a shake & tap & it started. it must have been lightly jammed or something, try that. it won't be beneficial to syphon through it if the water level is above it like it should be.
  7. my son has collect some tadpoles & has them in a small tank. there are quite a few, they have been in the tank for a couple of weeks now & are doing well. we have added oxygen weed & they get a water change everyday. what will we need to do as they grow larger & start to grow legs etc? I have an empty 4 foot tank he wants to keep some frogs in, i figure it will do well if it has a small amount of water in the bottom with rockwork for them to sit on & a few ferns & other plants.
  8. so you didn't hear their radio ads?? they were so blatant
  9. i was taking the piss when i posted that they may have it
  10. & i would have thought someone with such impeccable taste in cars would not be trying to cross these fish, same as putting a ford engine in a monaro.
  11. i was thinking it was too but couldn't work out who monaro1970 could be. a red giraffe would look awesome but would most likely be a motley red empress.
  12. do you mean red empress? i expect the outcome would be catfood.
  13. R16 to participate, R18 to watch  congrats, i hope they are successful.
  14. i think if you opened up the taps it would be a good thing, the more oxygen the better. they should be fine IMO
  15. not much more you can do i don't think, as long as the temp is somewhere near what it should be they should be ok.
  16. you are correct, the spray bar will spray it over the compartments. as long as the water level is above the pump it will just flow, it will pump the water up when the level is a little below the power head but i don't think that is good for it for any length of time as i think the water helps keep the power head cool.
  17. nice tank, i think clowns would be a great addition to it. i have lent mine out in the past to get rid of snails on others tanks, they do a great job.
  18. that is an unreal part of the world, i didn't expect that when i was down there.
  19. thanks, it's crushed marble or oragonite.
  20. so here it is, terrible pic due to reflections etc but the best i can do without a tank light. i will most likely move/add rocks as it appeals to me & the plant will be replaced with some val when i get some. i will be making a hood & adding panels & doors to stand in the future. I now understand how hard it is to get good pics of a tank this long, i reflects everything & there are doors & a ranch slider in this room which i had to avoid.
  21. this seems to be a similar debate to what is a big tank. it can come down to what we see in our own eyes as big or in this case cold water. i see posts of "un-heated" tanks, those tanks in certain rooms of the house may not get under 16 deg depending on the room temp. i think the real discussion is who thinks what temp is cold?? & what can cories cope with. personally i see a tropical tank 20 deg or more, a tempered tank (heater less tank inside) between 13 & 20 deg & to me a cold water tank is something 13 deg & under which more mimics the temps of our streams & river here in NZ. I have no idea what technically constitutes a cold water temp but that's just what i assume.

    Shellie pics

nice pics & fish! i think they could be good tank mates for tangs like tropheus. tropheus seem to stick to them selves which is goos, they don't hassle my altos so i think i'll give them a go in my new tank.
