all heaters of the same wattage use the same amount of energy. i had a discussion with a sparkie about this recently & he confirmed that which is no great mystery but he also said the performance can vary due to how they transfer that heat, things like how long the heating element is or the diameter of the coil or wire used & looking at mine he also suggested the material used to make the item as well. there is so much more to how a heater performs than just how much power goes into it.

cheap, my house was above the lion park to the west on gumtown rd. I had approx 5 acres which i had 8 sheep on & was paying $270 a week but that isn't to uncommon for whangarei rural. 8)

there are plenty of outdoors type things to do up here, golf, fishing, beaching, diving, DOC walks etc but other than that the city itself doesn't offer much really. there are no theme parks or anything like that, we only got a bowling alley in the last 5 years or so.

the heaters in my tanks in my stone cold garage aren't on 24/7, maybe get better heaters? if they aren't in your insulated fish room put poly around them.

you've probably done what you can. if your worried about power flag fishkeeping & take up knitting :lol: to me that's like talking fuel economy for v8s

it often works out the same value either way if you get a hood & stand made & add the costs of new lights & filter for a custom one although i have seen what i thought were outrageous prices of small factory made tanks like the tiny aquaone units. the advantage of getting a custom made one is you have choice of size & sometimes design etc but they are more work in the long run.

i don't know either. i heard it on 21 jump st in the mid 90's & they never said the punch line & it has bugged me ever since.
