  1. to remove a scratch from glass you'll need to polish it out. if it is visibly scratched then i would think it will take a lot of polishing to take enough surface off to remove it.
  2. i used it until bottle ran out then stopped and never got it back. i got mine from plants i bought from my lfs, check any new plants you get.
  3. i got rid of it by using Flourish Excell, dose as directed and it should die.
  4. clearly we were off the off topic topic  one could debate that is was still related as it was about what AL wanted to do with said chocolate wrapped peanut butter though. :sml2:
  5. isn't there a rule for implied smutt??
  6. i would allow 1mm gaps between all panels for the silicone. Pick the length and depth sizes you want, make that your base panel size then allow the length of the ends and front/back to suit that. the height won't matter much as long as they are all the same unless you have a special situation but the lengths are critical.
  7. umm, wouldn't that be the same as chocolate covered peanuts?
  8. weren't there some trets around years ago? would love to get some of those and they would suit my tank i think

    fry food??

from my experience, NLS and JBL novorift are the best foods to feed. Crush if you want, i used to do it but i found it to be a waste of time.

    fry food??

what fry do you have? for my african fry i just feed the same stuff that the adults eat. the fry nibble/peck at it as it is too big for some of them but they do well all the same.
  11. just spent thousands on the v8 in my toy, won't see that $ again so the fish bringing in a bit is nice.
  12. i think the issue with them would be finding enough customers. with tropheus they are ideally kept in groups of 10 or more so each purchase is usually $100 or more
  13. i think it is possible but not likely. if you get something that is expensive and rare and manage to breed and sell a lot of them then they will make $. there have been a few fish that were possibly made good money from but you also need to outlay a lot first and run the risk of loosing them and your coin. like the zebra plecs, if you bought a bunch at up to $1k each a bred plenty of them then there is a chance that they will bring in a tidy return. I keep my hobby paying for itself but it did spend a good amount of coin for them in the first place and as they were kinda rare selling wasn't difficult but that fact they have breed in the hundreds and i sell for small amounts compared to shops makes that work i think.
  14. im not sure which way the fx5 flows but the cf's i have flow from tank to the bottom then up through the baskets. I put the course sponge at the bottom so it takes the large particles out of the water first then up to the finer sponge and onto the wool last so the wool is filtering the least amount and finest of the debri. It seems to flow better than having them around the other way when dirty.
  15. it's all good discussion and yes we all have our perspectives which make sense to us and i totally agree about doing something about the state of the tank. i just prefer to help and be positive about it.
  16. so again it's a "name and shame" situation by trying to "flush out" the people that look after it? I'm sure if you spoke to the manager they would have easily been able to tell you who does. you have the option of going the nice way about it, this way isn't & it certainly isn't helping the situation as well as you could have if at all. if i was you i would have done what i could to found out who maintains it and offered to help them, whether that be advice or someone nearer to them to physically help. that's a better way is it not? I wouldn't create threads on fishkeeping sites pointing out how much of a "pill" the maintainer is, that doesn't help the inhabitants does it? they still may not have taken your advice, then maybe go on a crusade to run them down as you have.
  17. i guess in wonderland people will front up with their concerns & try to give helpful advice rather than hide behind a computer & go onto every forum and website they can find to express their dissatisfaction with an ornament, suggest the person looking after it should be shot and generally act as if they are perfect. I very much doubt they "are happy treat such imported marine fish as disposable", i bet they just need some advice because they obviously have spent time learning how to cook the fish, not keep them alive. one way to deal with it would be to offer to help to improve the situation but that doesn't seem to be an option from someone with the ability which is a shame that knowledge that must have been handed down from others cannot continue to be handed down.
  18. there can be many reasons why a setup like that could not be at it's best i guess. a friendly chat offering great advice with a staff member/manager/maintainer while at the establishment would be a great way to improve the state of it i think.
  19. sorry to offend, didn't intend to.
  20. well i certainly wouldn't go to an expensive restaurant like that and publicly winge about the state of a fish tank inside it. if it was kelly tarltons or similar i might say something but as their core business is food i was interested in the quality of that not their decor.
  21. here's the herald article http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=10793475
