  1. i'm simply referring to us in a situation of need to buy a pricey piece of gear and have the option of saving a significant amount by using the interweb. I on sell a little of the food but my fish consume more than i sell.
  2. so everything is perfect in the falcon then huh?? haha holdens drive alot nicer than the fords and you get used to the window controls, been there since the early commodores.
  3. nice. in that case it's a dirty new holden, 91 SS but will be around 400hp so will have enough poke for me
  4. my point is more that we are getting ripped off, paying retail else where, doubling that value with freight and still being up to 50% less than supporting our local. I assume it's the importers that are doing the best and i totally understand a store has to make money but the saving of $200 on the purchase of a FX5 is a "no brainer" i think. Shops are paying too much if they are marking the goods up by 100% as anyone can pay retail elsewhere and do that to match their prices. maybe it's just because our population isn't big enough to drive decent quantities of items to keep the price down.
  5. mr till/tull is so annoying he is remembered. Jono on the rock does a great skit based on him regularly
  6. who out there is buying stuff from other parts of the world and having it shipped in for a lot less than buying local? I was forced to investigate other avenues of supply for the food i feed my fish due to large increases in price which were around 25% over the space of two or three months i think. After finding a source i started buying it in and saved a good amount on each purchase so who else has been doing the same? I wasn't keen on the idea before this but it's my first option now. There have been a lot of items i have purchased lately, mainly parts for my V8 engine and have paid up to 60% less for the exact same parts but from the US and australia and that is with the freight charge which is often half the total cost. I am currently waiting for my new high volume oil pump, cost to buy $85AUD plus $86AUD for delivery making a total of $171 so was around $220 NZD. The best price i could find in NZ was $350 incl freight and some were as much as $490 :sml2: there are plenty of fish related products, anyone can order a FX5 and pay $415 NZD delivered and $140 of that is postage. they are over $600 in NZ.
  7. and at no time did i think you were. if pet food is available locally then it has been through the legal/certing processes (what ever that involves) and MAF can let it through if bought in from overseas. the result of that is we can bring it in & there is a great chance we don't have to get ripped off by stores. "shop smarter new zealand"
  8. if we can that means you can buy it from anywhere and have it flown in.
  9. i doubt the fish know if the food is good for them NLS gets my vote for the tangs
  10. i love research field trips, i'll bring the ruler!
  11. speaking of mermaids, see what glass they have in their tank
  12. i don't agree with the "continuously heating" at all. I have had 200L tanks with 200W of heat and they certainly were never on 24/7, probably not even 12/7. calculations are based on our knowledge on something so can be exact or a complete guess if we don't understand all factors. there has been many opinions on this over the years, i to started off with the attitude of a heater at each end etc but have proved myself to be over thinking it as I now have a 2.0m tank with a single jager 300W in the middle at it is fine year round even though it is in my garage which has been lined to create a rumpus. It get s very near outside temps in there as it has two strips of clearlite roofing and has no insulation. What i have learnt is that large bodies of water seem to hold their temp longer, 30% water changes don't take the temp down in this tank as much as the smaller ones i have found.
  13. i have found they do exactly what they state they will, don't know how but they do it.
  14. i feed large amounts all the time and do 30% water changes from the hose weekly, no drama for me.
  15. i don't do anything "special". a stable set up with plenty of good food, different areas of the tank for males to dominate and plenty of fish works well for me. my ph is low in comparison to most to.
  16. yeah well i have just learnt that salties need to replicate a washing machine
  17. not sure what requirements are for salties but that amount of water movement would make it like a washing machine i think. i have a tank that size and create good current just with the spraybar from the filter. I have a similar sized power head in my 2.0m tank and it is plenty so in a tank your size would be too much i think.
  18. it comes down to the quality of the heater to, i have jagers vertical and horizontal and they both keep the tank at the temp they are set at.
  19. i would first check that it states fully submersible than you can put it where you like. I have mine either vertical or horizontal on the bottom to hide it as much as possible. I wouldn't recommend your to be put vertical, i would put it on a 45 deg angle.
  20. very nice indeed, well done.

    New Tank Photos

    nice work, well done!
  22. it probably more comes down to the tank what you keep, I am only much use for help with africans but the 620 is too small for them. You may want to decide what to keep before buying the tank, it could save some hassle later on.
  23. hi and welcome what you planning on keeping?
