  1. no need, one of 30% each week is all i do at that only takes about 10 mins.
  2. the buyer has some quality fish for sale to ....
  3. that sounds like too much work, relax man :sml1:
  4. i got rid of it years ago when i had a planted tank by using Flourish Excell, dosed as directed.
  5. no don't, that could be construed as "not being punishment" and further sanctions may need to be taken by the aggressor :slfg:
  6. can you get them from the takeaway?
  7. can't be much fun having one of those. i was very lucky to secure an accepting lady so not too much moaning comes my way although i do respect what she needs as well so there are often compromises made that make life more pleasant. It's not all about me and i don't get a lot of free time once sleep, work and family time is deducted from the 24hours in each day but it can always be worse. I choose to keep my wife and family so put the effort in, i guess if they weren't important i would do more of what i wanted and loose them.
  8. it's a two way street. if you spend all of your time with the fish and ignored her then she's right but if that's the way you preferrred it then that's how you've got it. a long time ago i found life a lot more relaxing when you don't get wound up over things you can't control and accept people for who they are so i don't mind what hobbies my mrs has as long as it doesn't clash with my golf, fire brigade commitments, hunting, fish keeping, going to the pub, twilight cricket & car club stuff :nilly:
  9. i think i got those from Jen, perhaps she can tell you were to source them
  10. is there any risk of having issues with water from the HWC, they have copper elements don't they?
  11. in my experience with the a similar sized tank and amount of filtration it will be sweet with a large number of fish, say 40 africans ranging in size. When you add fish try to avoid adding a large number like 12 at one time as the filter will struggle to catch up, i guess you could if needed but i would reduce feeding and do two or three WC's in the next few weeks after adding just to make sure the nitrates etc don't get out of hand. just something to keep in mind.
  12. yeah your now ready to throw in heaps of africans!

    Two filters?

here a thread from a while back viewtopic.php?f=3&t=8228&hilit=ar980+canister+filter

    Two filters?

i used to have a sunsun which has the same style of trickle filter as the aquaone and i used both and it was really good. You can stock as heavily as you like and feed heaps as you basically have 10 times the tank volume or more filtration per hour. The sunsun had gaps in the hood for canister piping, do the Aquaone's not?
  15. that is a super nice setup. you should have just cropped the curtains out :slfg:
  16. cycle is for when you start a new tank isn't it? i have seen stresszyme used at my LFS for transporting fish, I wouldn't be wasting my $ with any of that. i only ever used dechlorinator when i lived in town, now i use no chemicals at all and don't actually have any here at all.
  17. well there is two opposites in opinions, either way works so it's up to you haha
  18. i have seen adult empress and adult fronts together and all were coloured nicely so i doubt it will be an issue. the tank may be a little short for those numbers when they are adults considering they will get up to around 25cm so not sure if it's such a great idea but you also have a lot of time to deal with that as you go.
  19. i clean out my canister filters every 4 to 6 weeks, when the flow in significantly reduced. if your using a trickle filter i would clean or replace the wool/pad regularly like weekly to keep it moving and then the box with media every 4 to 6 weeks. that's what i have always done and it seems to work well. i believe there is more good bacteria in the tank than in the filter so in my thinking the filter isn't as important for that side of things. When i clean out the canisters i do remove the lot and hose everything clean.
  20. red empress would be a good option or some haps like red shoulder or similar but the red empress will be the best red.
  21. the valesinaria sp?? species seem to do well
