Email them. If the product doesn't meet your satisfaction you are legally allowed to return it within 30 days. You'll probably need to pay postage back but they should offer you a refund or similar. I recommend the Haliea range of cheapies over the AquaOnes. Its the only internal filter I've ever owned that had suction cups capable of holding to the glass.

I was always under the impression that you couldn't successfully breed two black angelfish? Previously I was breeding one of my black females with a solid white male, and the result was some white and some black offspring. But the numbers were quite low, so I swapped her out for another black female. I put her back in my community with a black veiltail angelfish whom I knew was male but figured was a bit of a dud as he never showed any signs of being interested in breeding or even being aggressive, completely gentle gorgeous looking fish. Anyway the two blacks paired up, laid eggs, now I have 6 baby angelfish (low number is similar to previous breedings with other male, think female has a weak gene or three). Just thought I'd share, because I sincerely didn't think you could breed black angels with black angels..... Def Black - 3 stripes and slight green tinge when viewed close on certain angles under light, otherwise from a distance of greater than about 20cm look solid black.

I've got a male and two female apistogramma agasezii which are grown out offspring from a previous breeding pair I had ages ago. However this set of offspring show no signs of wanting to breed at all. Kelly has two male Blue rams, looking for a female if anyone has any? I've got male/female Bolivian Rams, not interested in breeding either.

Which is one reason Flourish Excel is so awesome. Expensive but when I use it damn do you notice.
-
Nope, not at all. I've kept them fine on their own. Provided nothing was attacking it, overnight death seems to be more like stress + previous illness. They're often sold in pairs overseas because sellers find it hard to sell the dull females.
-
No idea what happened there sorry dude! Normally what kills them is they eat something bad and can't fight off the bacteria, makes'm swell up like Oprah and pop sounds like something very different was wrong with your guy.

I find neons die easily. Neons also only school when scared, so once they settle they're just fish that dont do much. Danios are more interesting, more playful, and hardier.

If its brown then I beleive it is bacteria, not 100% sure if its the same or not. Would recommend getting a small filter to suit your application. UV isnt necessary, just anything. This provides a safe area for the good bacteria to live, and ensures that all the water passes through. Water movement from an air bubbler etc might be doing this for you at present, but thats not a reliable system, and when you clean your tank it'll stuff up the natural cycle that I am assuming is in place. If your tank is tropical, I thouroughly recommend bristlenose or golden bristlenose to keep the glass clean for you. Alternatively you can just buy those magnetic algae cleaners. You can use a readily available gravel vacuum, which allows you to remove the crud from the pebbles when syphoning out water at your next partial water change (20-30%). I wouldn't recommend doing this until you've got a filter running and have had so for a week. Hope that helps a little. My advice is playing on the safe side, you can take risks if you wish but doing the above will give your fish the best chance at staying healthy.

Just dying without symptoms I normally put down to nitrite poisoning. Whenever its happened to me I do the test and find nitrite. I find the bacteria that converts nitrite to nitrate to be the most sensitive out of the cycling process. Did you clean your filter recently, or was it switched off for a long period of time? or had it stalled from being clogged or anything like this? Recommend getting a freshwater test kit ($50ish). They last forever and are a real lifesaver, because you actually know what your fish are swimming in. I do ammonia and nitrite tests whenever my fish aren't looking 100%. Provided danios have enough space and aren't being bullied or sucked in to filter inlets they should live a very long time. They're one of the more hardier fish available and I used to use them for tank cycling.

Hey kitten, I'm in Wellington also, so if you need anything feel free to give me a message. I'm always keen to lend a hand. Danios are easy to breed but you're going to need another tank setup. I'm not sure how much information you want, so feel free to ask questions, but the basics are: - bare tank, doesn't need to be big, like 20 litres max - a cycled (if possible) air powered sponge filter ($8ish at hutt pets + air pump if you dont have one) - 100% fresh water, out of the tap is fine just use a little water ager - nice big lump of java moss, more the merrier! - heater, around 25 degrees would do Now with that setup, just add your lovely plump female, and your favourite male! Mine used to spawn within a few minutes, but you're supposed to leave them overnight, as soon as the female isn't fat anymore you remove both. After a few days you'll see tiny things hanging off the inside of the glass, these are baby danios In about a week you can feed them, I used Liquifry for Egg layers (pet store sells this) mixed in a bit of water and poured it in (only need a tiny bit). Dont feed them until they're swimming around like fish, otherwise it gets wasted. Sounds like a pain but you'll end up with a lot of danios. Your female will be ready to breed in 7-14 days again. I was getting around 30-40 fish each time but you could easily get more. Any questions let us know

Water changing method - experience and opinion please:D
SpidersWeb replied to henward's topic in Technical
Water changes 30% or less I just put it in. Water changes 30% or more get cheap water ager added. Water changes 50% or larger I try to make sure the water is warm as well Works fine. I add the ager while the water is being added, e.g. half way through it I do a 'squirt'. Also I never fire the cold hose at the filters directly. -
Also so you know angel fish don't stay small very long. My breeding male is around 20cm tall. As above, too many, I've got 4 and have had to seperate them in to two pairs. They all have personalities, and I had two girls after the same guy, just like jerry springer they beat the boogers out of each other. * end of rant * Good luck!

You had the 'Disable BBCode in this post' option ticked. img is a BBCode

Ahh neato. Cheers

lol it happens It's better to do lots of little cleans than huge ones. Gravel vacs + bristlenose = the key I reckon. Let me know if you need bristlenose, I've got a huge pile of GBAs.

It will sort itself out. Partial (30%ish) water changes might be in order if there is valuable fish in there. Just need to identify what caused it. Possibly the 80% water change, or if you'd cleaned your filters recently or if a filter had blocked and stopped etc Really want to get a kit and test for nitrite, its the only sure fire way of knowing whats going on in the tank. From my personal experience I've found the bacteria that does the nitrite to nitrate conversion the easiest to kill, and its normally nitrite that is the silent killer. Fish will gasp for air with ammonia poisoning, with nitrite they just seem to die quickly with no sign of disease.
-
Let the tap water age for 24 hours before testing too. As above, anything shell based will raise GH/KH which in turn raises the pH.
-
Doing large water changes like that can cause problems with the filter bacteria. Not sure if that's what did it, but I'd put money on your tank has had a nitrite spike.

By fluke I think I've come up with an interesting breeding pair of angels. Dad: Large white pearlscale, perfect specimen Mum: Black Zebra Lace (black with green tint in certain light and 3 stripes) I expect the young to be hideous, but it wasn't the case, and I've just moved a batch of 300 eggs to a dedicated tank. The first batch were looking like angel fish at only 2 weeks old, but were accidently poisoned and only one survived. At 4 weeks old he/she is a fantastic great looking angel fish with full colouration. I was impressed not only from the strength of this fish, but also its very fast growth rate on flake food. Also blacks are normally weaker, not in this case! Of the offspring at 2 weeks all were the same size (no runts). Just had to share that. When I get a photo of the offspring I'll take a photo.

Think he means the HiTech ones are really good. I've got a hi-tech. No complains.
-
hahaha nice I knew they'd come in handy for something

It's not I/H its l/H (lowercase L which stands for litres) l/H = litres/Hour Sounds perfect for your needs. Bubbles just need to be enough to encourage water to move to the surface, doesn't need to be on very high. Remember the tank has to cycle yet, so add only a couple of fish max and minimal feeding. Preferably fish of low $ value.

12mm eggs, jeeeez Pretty sure I have a female fire eel. Looks like somebody shoved the outlet of an air compressor up its butt. Have been tempted to get a second fire eel to see what happens when two share a tank. If I do I'll get the skinniest guy I can find.

I'm not a professional class cutter but AFAIK any light/thin oil. I used a 10W30 synthetic oil from shell for cars which worked well but only because it was sitting there and I didn't have anything else. Sewing machine type oil would be fine etc

Has he found it yet?
