  1. I have just introduced 6 neons to my new aquarium yesterday. They looked fine but now I notice one is swimming with head up and tail down, colour is fine, but it is also doing a jerky movement. Any suggestions please as this is a new tank. The water is looking good and the guppies are fine.
  2. Sorry Jn  there I go again, getting the terminology wrong!! I remember back in the 'old' days when people used to refer to aquarium plant as 'weed' and how annoying it was but mind you weed has a different meaning altogether these days. There I go rambling again! No, seriously honestly I have appreciated all the help I have received and even the offer of free cichlids to 'clean' up my tank! Guppies are looking good, cycle is cycling, pump is moving water around and the filter is doing its job. What more could I want.......NO NOT any offer of cichlids Thanks!!!
  3. Thanks again for all your help. This morning I bought a pump and just hope its ok because it was recommended in the shop and it had 25% discount. Also someone else on the forum recommended this brand. The only problem is I don't know how many LPH. I looked everywhere on the box and the directions.....so I will copy what I think may be relevant. Its a Eheim 2008 IMP Max 13 I/H 150-300 (this is the one that I think is talking about litres per hour?) I'm not sure how hard the bubbles should be, its pretty powerful after my other one and I've got it turned down. I had a $10 gift voucher (from buying the tank) and so altogether I got a $79.95 pump for 49.95! I figured that had to be a plus. Now all I hope is that someone doesn't tell me its the wrong one!!!!
  4. Oh no....I thought you were offering me cichlids! lol Thanks for the offer, its very kind of you, I will wait and see what comes up otherwise I will buy some from Wet Pets........Sounds like you haven't got heaps of it. It seems like that particular plant isn't very plentiful. Does it take a long time to grow?
  5. Thanks Bill........I just thought I should put it all in the 'beginners' section but now I know better. I appreciate everyones help.
  6. Thanks for your help. I seem to be doing it all wrong. Making too many threads and putting them in the wrong departments ......lol. You will have to sack me!!!!I will learn. Yes thats the plants I want. Ummmm if I remember correctly cichlids are not compatible with little livebearers but thanks for the offer!!!!
  7. First thanks for replying to my request. Second.....sorry! I'm brand new so thought I would have to have different threads for different requests but thanks for the advice. I probably won't have a heap of questions once I get this tank up and running but I appreciate your help.
  8. Hi I need to get some plant for my tank and wondered if there are any local people who sell plants. Would appreciate if you could get back to me. I especially like the look of Amazon fern? I'm not sure if thats the name but its the lovely broad leaved one and you can get the moss in it as well.
  9. Can any of you wonderful people advise me what would be the best filter pump for a 65litre aquarium. They sold me one with the tank but I think it is a bit useless. I have looked at all the ones on TradeMe and I wouldn't know whether I was getting a good deal or not. I don't want to pay an arm and a leg but I also don't want to be a cheapskate and get another dud. The one I have got has got that pad thingy in it which you change every 4 wks or so.
  10. Hey Jn I just realised I never answered your question about the type of filter I have. Its just an external one (I can't even see a name on it) with a pad which slips into the filter box. I think it is pretty useless but it came with the deal and next week I am going to look at getting another one. Any recommendations please.? Not too expensive but one which will do the job better than this one. Thanks
  11. Thanks Newfish, I wouldn't give up that easy, just felt like I could at the time. Actually the 3 little female guppies have all been swimming around the tank in the last ten minutes or so! Yay! I only purchased these because I know guppies are hardy and I figured if they survived I would be doing something right! They were something like $9.95 each retail, is that the going price these days.? Seems awfully expensive to me, for one little guppy! Anyway thanks for your encouragement and you are right......its amazing how many answers I have had and how wonderful everyone has been on this forum.
  12. I had to laugh jn because I suspected that these could also be doing that sometimes, and maybe I just have to wait till they settle in a bit more, but I will do a bucket at a time. I'm not sure that I am game to use a hose and do 50% water but thanks to that person for the advice. I cannot believe how helpful everyone has been. Its really great to know there are lots of willing people out there to support newcomers to this forum.
  13. Its a 60 litre tank so when you say to do small water changes each day, do you mean maybe one third and should I use water ager in the 'new' water?
  14. Thanks everyone you have been so helpful. Its really hard when you are starting over and things have changed so much over time. I really appreciate you Palmy (and Bulls of course) people and all your info and a big thanks to Mark for helping me with this tank problem. Fish are still alive so heres hoping. I will keep you posted and I will keep Jewlelz in mind.
  15. Thanks Mark, You have been so helpful and I really appreciate it.
