  1. yes i have used bamboo to spawn before but dont find it any better than other methods like terracotta pots and bits of drift wood.
  2. they're great wouldn't buy them though i am sure u can find some bamboo around ur area just chop them down to size and boil them.
  3. now i've never come across this or have ever read or heard of such thing happening. now this is the set up 2 large male and 2 female GBA in a 2 foot tank and they have been breeding in their for a while now with no problem as one male was always physically a lot bigger than the other. now over the past couple of weeks the smaller male has grown to the same size if not a bit larger than the original dominate male and have been fighting which i just let them at it thinking they will eventually sort it out but a week later the fighting was starting to get really bad and no sign of stopping and both female dieing to breed with huge stomachs, so much so the females will dive in to the middle of the fight trying to breed with them. now this is the amazing part last nite i found them stopped fighting but instead they dug a second entrance to the "cave" they were fighting over and now they're head to head both fanning and to my surprise they're both fanning the same huge clutch of eggs which i suspect are two clutch together. and they take turn on been physically been on top of the eggs. now if u do manage to read though all that here is some shots of them at it. this pic shows the close up on where he clutch of egg is under the wood. look closely u can just see the bristles of the other male. u can see the head of one male and the tail of the other. this pic the male on the left has his head directly over the eggs. now on this pic u can see the male on the left has backed off a little and now the male on the right has his head directly over the eggs

    wow

WOW that looks fantastic but i am surprised they all get along. some plecos are carnivals and will hunt and eat small fish but none in there that i can see. the blue eye is my favorit out of the bunch
  5. it can be used to harden the water and rise the ph to be more alkaline. do this by crushing it up and put in the filter.

    Hello

i am also very interested in the plans for this beast set up 3m = 10foot? is this the biggest one yet? whats the actual measurement and what are u planning to do with lights, subtract..........i am excited for u :bounce:
  7. cant find the thread with the search been down and all but someone here had a small trout in their tank for a while now. as for for fast flowing water and high oxygen is not a problem just like keeping wild caught plecos
  8. hay i've heard before as well but never read it anywhere so cant tell u for sure. never know till ya give them a try and shouldn't take to long to find out been live breeders and all

    Hello

hay boi, i am fishboi do mind changing ur profile so we know where u are? tell us about the sort of fish u keep
  10. yep pretty much what everyone is saying just with the bristles. should be easily sexed at 2 inches dont have to wait till 3 inch most adults dont even get to that size. these are plenty big enough to breed now
  11. fishboi

    hello

yeah another aucklander. welcome :bounce: what sort of fish do u keep?
  12. nice pics is the 3rd one an WCMM nice colors do all urs turn out that color?
  13. there is only really 3 types commonly found in LFS reeve. snake neck and redear. reeve been the smallest but they're hard to find now and would set u back a good $200 if u do find one. redear is goin to be ur best option but they do grow to around 20cm+ within 3 of years but males do tend to grow slower but will end up around the same size. a two foot tank is a good size to start with and ur need a turtle tank or a plain tank with a basking area so they can dry off completely. getting a turtle is a very big cimmitment, a life time in fact as they last as long as we do, beside what u read on line and in books claiming they only have a life span of 40-50 years there is record of wild ones that live for hundreds. do ur homework before goin out and buying one just because they're cute as they dont stay that size for long and soon a 5 foot tank would be considered the bare minimum for these guys
  14. thanks for the offer beachy but i've already got all the bulbs i need. the BLV blue is very blue which is what i want as its goin to be on a different timer so it would be like a moon lighting by itself as u know i have a few nocturnal fish. how does the 14000K MH look very blue?
  15.      with the 3 MH lights i got off u mat the plan is to have the two 6400k on the side and BLV blue [Model # - BLV224321] in the centre. at the moment all my tanks are run with AquaOne AL-D sires and they either have the standard 14000K and 10000K and when time to change them i put cheap day light tubes in which aren't made for aquarium use so no idea of the kelvin but a lot brighter than the 10000K.
  16. yeah u can get all sorts upper sword, lower sword, double sword, spade...... the list goes on.
  17. hay nic and welcome now the Aqua One 620 is an 2 foot tank? [around 60cm] u're already goin to have a problem as silver sharks/bala sharks are over a foot when they reach adult size and with two combine is longer than ur tank . u may have to up grade in the future dont put any convics or large cichlid in that tank as they would just eat or kill everything already in there. especially convics they're extremely aggressive. 10 neon would be a great idea maybe a few more danios as they're a schooling fish that like to be with 6+ dont have to be just zebras as well as all danios will school together. water change as much as u want the more the better most discus keepers here even do around 80% water change everyday. hope that helps enjoy the site. :bounce:
  18. yeah some of the marine tanks the light along is around 1200Watt.

    Tonic salt

its labeled Pond salt but really all the same so u can call it tonic salt which is same as rock salt really. if ur going to buy it from the supermarket just make sure its all natural with no added chemicals and ur be fine.

    Tonic salt

this is goin to sound silly but i get them from east road pets down Invercargill my partner's family lives down there so i get around 10 Kg every time i go down. around $1 a Kg.

    Tonic salt

tonic salt, natural rock salt [from supermarket], coarse salt and pond salt are pretty much all the same with pond salt been the cheapest. marine salt is different as its like an concentrate of salt [man made not natural] with added nutrients and what not. don't know if its a good idea to put it in fresh water though but it does work in theory as full strength salt water is 30-50% of dissolved salts in parts per thousand, brackish is 10-30% and freshwater is only 0.5% or less. sooo....using red sea salt as an example 1kg mix 30Litre so u would be safe if u add less then 5gram per 30litres that's not including the salt already in the freshwater so to be extra safe i would just put around 1 gram per 30litre of cause that's in theory so who wants to be the first
  22. look at the very end of this page [link below] these are not the only guys though pm some of the salty importers on this site i am sure they can help u out. http://www.deepblueaquarium.co.nz/lights.htm
