  1. just reread my post and left this one out which mite help. Locus is the fixed position where a gene is located on a chromosome.
  2. for SilverBlade86 [correct them if their wrong pplD ] this is how i under stand it. Chromosome is the structure that carries the genes. dominate is a gene that expresses itself visually in a single does. [in this case it expresses in color] Recessive is a tricky one and often relates to albino. its a gene that must be on both chromosomes of a pair in order to be visually apparent. except when the gene is carried on the sex chromosome [a sex linked gene where no locus exists on the other sex] basically it has to be chromosome of a pair so there is no dominant gene to mask the recessive presence. sometimes genes are carried on the sex but since all I've ever seen on this cross is female GBA with a male BN i have no idea. but the mix is what we call an incomplete dominance, this is when the dominant gene is not able to fully suppress the recessive gene and as a result both gene is displayed. so the first generation shows appearance of both colors.
  3. dont really want to go back there Alan but no i prefer my original but i do enjoy the golden variety but not the balloon types.
  4. cool keep us updated. never actually seen one in NZ does he look like this? http://www.aqualandpetsplus.com/Cichli800.jpg
  5. AMAZONIAN pretty much covered it. they're very very small and easily split in to several cultures over night. i stopped using them cuz they stink other wise they're good, my frys seem to enjoy BBS more though
  6. thats what i was thinkin, must be X-mas everyday for ya Ballaney
  7. nice pics. i like the second one with the male in the rock
  8. cute little things. i still haven't got my first clutch of the season yet  stil feels like winter up here in Auckland this morning
  9. when u say rock pools i think of rock pools by the beach which is saltwater and those ones are different. saltwater ones have red joints in their legs fresh dont.
  10. i totally agree there, been a sucker i've bought them twice off trademe. both times they're the type from streams which the seller claim they're not. tried very hard to breed them both time but no joy. in fact none of them last over 6 month good jumpers too so make sure u have good cover. and if they're all the same size then they would be all the same sex as they change their sex half way though their life. large female small male?
  11. ouh sorry didnt realize its goin to be a cold water tank. no BN is strictly tropical despite what a lot of ppl say, they will survive in room temperature for a while but sooner or later...... :-?
  12. just set the tank up with the plants u wanted after u physically remove as much of the algae as u can then just dose the tank with algaefix. ur tank should turn cloudy for 3-4 days then after that do 30% water change with cured water at the same time syphoning out any dead algae. let it sit for a week before u add any fish [no tank should be without an BN]. as long as u keep ur conditions right u shouldn't have any problem with algae. things to look out for in case u dont already know remember to have ur filter running the whole time and make sure u take the carbon/carbon sponge out before u dose. set the tank up where it gets no direct sunlight.
  13. i second that, i wouldn't have believed it if i didn't see the build.
  14. no idea but sounds interesting. what size and how much?
  15. i use them for fry tanks only and need to be cleaned at least once a week but works well.

  18. cute little guys. from the first pic looking at the one at the back the markings looks like Maud Island Frog (Leiopelma pakeka)??? but the others that dont look like they have any markings have pale belly's? could be just Litoria ewingii. have they started getting markings yet? it would help. also the size of them.

    i second that amazing pics
  21. yeah been breeding both types for a while now. for some reason they dont breed as easily as the normal color type [for me anyway]. i think its cuz of all the inbreeding to get the color line so i am in the process of crossing out then back in, still getting a few dark dots on the off springs but have noticed a lot stronger line and they're getting much easier to breed. have only manage to sell off 2 batch to LFS and since then lost a whole tank load due to heater [though i'll be smart and introduce a heater during winter  ] http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/here-v ... tml#163713
