  1. Awww cheesey... oh so cheesey and some are just down right sleazy  They are usually sleazy or cheesey, either way  Irish guy asks.. (using Irish as example) Q. Have you got any Irish in you? A. Umm no I haven't... Irish guy... Q. Well do you want some?
  2. When setting up a nice display with alot of rock work, it pays to lay your rocks before substrate.. this way the rocks don't shift when mbuna etc dig 8) Also reduces dead spot issue in your tank if the majority are laid before substrate.. 8)
  3. Oh what a wicked outcome shadowfax, pleased that there was light at the end of the tunnel
  4. Schist and slate are great for making caves. Or limestone rocks. You can use coral sand for african tanks but we have mainly used this for smaller tangy species. Marble chip is great to use, you just turn it over with syphon while doing water changes and you get that bright white look again, alot finer than the white larger pebble look.
  5. http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/incubating-bangaii-cardinal-eggs-not-safe-for-dialup-vt32075.html Have you checked this thread out? 8) There is also a lady here in HB that has bred them.
  6. Oh that sucks.... It is amazing when dealing with a female how all these additional charges slip into the mix... I know of a mechanic and where he used to work, he said his boss and some of the other past workers there loved dealing with females and their cars as they seemed to take every costing etc given as gospel, and would happily palm out the money.. no questions asked, he said they were easier targets than men folk  I would be on the phone about the invoice amount and what was verbally quoted, however, I let my hubby deal with that sort of thing as I very easily lose my rag over things like that, not a good look
  7. Thanks for the tips to all, conditioning them up at the moment and then going to give them a whirl... I had other fish decide to give me plenty of new arrivals so currently have my hands full, and BBS batches bubbling away  and good luck Cricketman, keep us posted on how well yours do, I have found the tetra males get rather snotty with each other.
  8. You will also find that some bristles will choose to damage plants big time, sucking on the leaves and damaging them... 8)
  9. Good on you sandysme, at least you are one of those people that can now give back to community, no matter what happened in the past.. shame that there aren't more like it out there.

  12. I hate it when you download a file, and its taken a wee while and you open it up only to find it is something nasty and dodgy  I remember this feeling after Eight Below had only just been out a wee while, was so looking forward to watching it that night once bed time hit and hello, this don't look like no snow and dog movie
  13. I have seen the odd plec of ours get stroppy in the past.... never latched onto any of the cichlids, however, have been grumpy over a piece of food or pleco chip and done the whole go for the fish thing as if to say rack off... Bet the Keyhole got the shock of his life
  14. Heya Reptor You have to put your photos through a photo site ie photobucket etc... Then copy and paste your album link or copy your image tags on your posts

  16. A Letter from Grandma... Got a letter from Grandma the other day. She writes... The other day I went up to a local Christian bookstore and saw a "Honk If You Love Jesus " bumper sticker. I was feeling particularly sassy that day because I had just come from a thrilling choir performance, followed by a thunderous prayer meeting; so I bought the sticker and put it on my bumper. Boy, I'm glad I did! What an uplifting experience that followed! I was stopped at a red light at a busy intersection just lost in thought about the Lord and how good He is and I didn't notice that the light had changed. It is a good thing someone else loves Jesus because if he hadn't honked, I'd never have noticed! I found that LOTS of people love Jesus! Why, while I was sitting there, the guy behind me started honking like crazy, and then he leaned out of his window and screamed, "For the love of GOD! GO! GO! JESUS CHRIST, GO!" What an exuberant cheerleader he was for Jesus! Everyone started honking! I just leaned out of my window and started waving and smiling at all these loving people. I even honked my horn a few times to share in the love! There must have been a man from Florida back there because I heard him yelling something about a "sunny beach"... I saw another guy waving in a funny way with only his middle finger stuck up in the air. When I asked my teenage grandson in the back seat what that meant, he said that it was probably a Hawaiian good luck sign or something. Well, I've never met anyone from Hawaii; so I leaned out the window and gave him the good luck sign back. My grandson burst out laughing... why even he was enjoying this religious experience! A couple of the people were so caught up in the joy of the moment that they got out of their cars and started walking towards me. I bet they wanted to pray or ask what church I attended, but this is when I noticed the light had changed. So, I waved to all my sisters and brothers, grinning, and drove on through the intersection. I noticed I was the only car that got through the intersection before the light changed again and I felt kind of sad that I had to leave them after all the love we had shared; so I slowed the car down, leaned out the window and gave them all the Hawaiian good luck sign one last time as I drove away. Praise the Lord for such wonderful folks! Grandma
  17. I wouldn't be risking the parents with other fish when they have a brood happily travelling around the tank with ma and pa, could mean disaster for the other fish... Especially if these Kribs have had a go before... have you got a spare tank for babies... and parents if you want to move them aswell? I wouldn't be leaving it till they are bigger, the sooner they are out, the better.
  18. I am pretty sure I have seen something similar on You Tube, amazing doco 8) Yet to find the link... and paste it on forums, it was such an amazing doco.... Amazon Abyss sounds neat, if only we had Animal Planet :-? The doco on You Tube has a group that go diving in the deep waters of the amazon... see BGK's and also there are apparently huge monster catfish who according to the natives are big enough to do some damage
  19. They are no doubt having tea and biscuits I hope everyone is tucked up safe and keeping warm 8) Seems the wind is picking up here, wonder if it is on it's way :-?
  20. The blue eyed variant in the Cochliodon family are awesome.... the blue eyes stand out rathe vividly against the chocolate red jaffa coloured body... would be interesting to see this "Blue eyed Black Bristlenose variety" that they are selling. There were a Black Ancistrus species come in through the suppliers last year and they were stunning... They were a deep black colour and something is ringing a bell over their colour eyes but I cannont remember fully.. they were definately neat looking species of Plec. Hubby ordered a pair in, very robust chunky Plec.
  21. I feed my fish 2-3 times a day, (enough for them to eat each snack time)... And shrimp diced at night an hour or so before lights out and some lights out when nocturnal feeders are most active. I feed fry (brineshrimp, microworms etc) 4-5 times a day.. and our baby Oscars even more so, along with bare bottom tank cleans and syphon once or twice a day (water change). Oscars would have to be the most demanding fry we have raised out of the larger cichlids  Surprise!!!!
  22. We feed brineshrimp to our young African fry.... As firenzenz said in regards to mbuna... they mustn't have a meaty diet, spirulina and vege/algae based foods are a must. We don't feed bloodworms out at all to our Africans. Haps etc appreciate Mysis Shrimp, they chow down majorly on Mysis frozen blocks. We also feed fresh shrimp diced up and making our own frozen mix for africans with spinach etc
  23. Most definately Luke
