  1. Are there pills for this sort of thing?
  2. http://www.greendiary.com/entry/awesome ... erfection/
  3. Up to you, but the sponges would possibly help trap some of the finer particles that are in the water column. Some of the hang on back filters have noodles and sponge, on my ones the sponge always gunks up before the noodles do.
  4. Ceramic noodles just need to be rinsed if they get really gunked up, just rinse them in some tank water when you do a water change, but don't clean them every week, and I mean really gunked up, not just a few flecks of mulm.
  5. 6. you could swap the stones for bio media. would give more surface area.
  7. Use the search function for scoria, there are a few posts about it from the past.
  8. Yeah right... lets see how long that lasts
  9. Just wait until your mum gets bitten again, then the bucket may disappear!
  10. Sounds like someone needs some old concrete washtubs in the back yard
  11. I think that is way too many fish that you suggest, Joe, it is only 54l and even with good filtration is overstocked. As burrowssj says, it could go downhill very fast, even before the fish grow out you could have problems.
  12. Pic posting info here. viewtopic.php?t=2406

    Ammonia

Just make sure you line your pockets with plastic bags before you go there, distract him with Timtams...
  14. Mine only lasted about two years, the female died first, then the male with a big ulcer. The biggest thing is to look for a healthy one when you buy them, not angular in the head and skinny belly - a good fat plump one is the one you want
  15. Sponge filter should be fine in a tank that size.
  16. Just be aware that Dwarf gourami - Colisa laila are not very robust fish, or should that be the ones we manage to get now are not. They seem prone to ulcers, dropsy and just turning tail at the drop of a hat. Would not put them in a new setup until it has matured. Females are also very hard to come by, and when paired the female spends most of its time hiding from the male, which is usually quite aggressive.
  17. Hi, and welcome. I have shifted your post to this topic, some of the posters in the other topic are no longer with us.
  18. I think you have put the wrong falsies in there, LA, they seem a bit small
  19. Tiger barbs can be nippy and aggressive if not kept in large enough numbers. Hatchet fish are surface dwellers, so you may need some mid water fish as well, which will cut your numbers down. Unfortunately Neons do not shoal, per se, unless you startle them, and more often than not they just hang around separately or one picks on all the others and they hide (this is usually a bossy female ) I do not know what Cardinals are like, P44 may be able to elaborate on that. Pencilfish seem to hang around together more, but swim at an odd angle. Threadfins are nice, swim fast and in the quantity P44 suggests would look good. Whatever you do, do not use Neons to cycle your tank, they are not particularly hardy in immature tanks.
