  1. That's what I'm worried about Alan. I think the house is almost 30% glass at the moment - without the fishtank!
  2. As I have said previously in another post, we are building a new house, into which we have designed a large fish tank as a feature between the dining room and the lounge. I have been studiously gathering information about how we go about this to try and eliminate teething troubles when we get the tank under way. Last night we went to our first HBAS meeting, listened to Warren talking about the MAF register thing for fish, what was on the agenda for the next meeting, and watched the fish (and other things which looked suspiciously un fish-like, birdcage for instance) auction run by Bruce. When we left my husband said that maybe we should buy a small tank and have a 'play around' with it before we get the big one! We haven't even started building our house yet and are 'squatting' at me Mum's until it's built. Does anyone see this as the beginnings of something very bad?
  3. yep, it's one of those things you don't think about when taking pics, just like shadows across peoples faces..
  4. if you google 'fotoalbum aquaport thomaszimmer' then click 'translate this page', you will get a sort-of readable version! Requires a bit of lateral thinking to get the meaning of some bits, though.
  5. Hi Peteypleco I think she liked the colour, and possibly the fact that he was mooching about on the bottom of the tank looking for food, while the others were hiding behind the heater! She is very impressed that they eat zuchinni and watermelon.

  7. Hi Feelers, are you here for the Hols?
  8. Thanks Warren, will do that when we get organised. You're still not driving that yellow two door Escort are you?
  9. Hey, that's a good idea.. The time it's gonna take us to build the house, let alone have enough money left for the monster tank and accessories, she could probably do that!
  10. My ten year old daughter has always liked Plecos, she is very interested that we will be getting a tank, but couldn't care less what is in it, as long as we have a Pleco, and she doesn't like Bristlenoses at all for some reason. Anyway, yesterday we were at one of the LFS and she sees a Pleco that is not hiding behind stuff, but happliy grazing the bottom of the tank. He has gold spots that almost look two-toned. 'Ooo..' she says, 'can we get one of those, I like him the best', complete with the obligatory puppy dog eyes look. I reply mabye, after we actually get a fishtank! So, being extremely organised about the matter, she goes and asks the guy in the shop what sort it is so we can get one the same later. He gives her the name, and she goes over to the tank to see how much it is... $159 the most expensive one there! The only other fish she liked was the Arowana, at about four times the price!
  11. I think a 12 meter tank is a bit ambitious for a first tank! I can only imagine how big the filtration pump would have to be, and what sort of noise it would make. We'd probably have to sleep in the shed to get away from the racket!
  12. Hi Lyndyloo We have three girls and err... seven cats at the moment. Five are kittens which we will rehome in three weeks when they are big enough to leave their mum. Gee, sometimes I wish you could give your kids away at six or seven weeks, especially during the school holidays!
  13. About 3m (that's just a bit less than 10 feet for the imperialists!) The whole wall is a bit much, considering one is 12m and the other 9.
  14. We are building a new home, and will finally have enough room to have a large-ish fishtank. So we are gathering information, and find your forums a good source of info and helpful advice. We have three kids and too many cats..
