    Hi everyone :)

I'd say you were a gonner by the sounds of it, one tank is never enough! Hi and welcome.
  2. Ahh, you had better brush up on the female repertoire for new things... Such as: 'that old thing, I've had it for ages' 'I found it in the back of the wardrobe' 'a friend gave it to me because it didn't fit' Beware, though, these are our tricks, and your wife may be up with the play!
  3. Hi, we have a marine tank, it is only a small 105l tank, and is home to three fish, several softies and a lot of bryopsis at the moment!
  4. Wow, stunning - and awfully time consuming, all that slicing and drilling out the caves...
  5. Try here, it suggests it is not NZ native http://www.nzpcn.org.nz/exotic_plant_li ... eedID=1188 Section 117 of the document below has recorded it growing in a thermal area at 29 degC - probably not too good a temp for mudfish! http://www.nzetc.org/tm/scholarly/tei-B ... dy-d3.html This paper is quite interesting too.. beware, it is a PDF. www.mfe.govt.nz/publications/water/lm-a ... -jun02.pdf
  6. I have seen people use those fake bunches of grass (about 20mm in height with a solid bottom, about 50 - 60mm round) floating upside down for the fry to hide in.
  7. Hi, and welcome. Planetcatfish.com has a lot of info, and lots of pics too, if you are not into the intelligent monkey stuff!

    questions

Maybe he's thinking of a golden algae eater, Gyrinocheilus aymonieri, which I think is the CAE, but gold form? Killies prefer softer water, so a subtrate such as aragonite would probably no be a good idea. If you want a darker substrate (this makes the killies colour show quite well), you could look at collecting some fine gravel from Westshore or Marine Parade - not too close to the Fertilizer works, though. Wash it well, and try to take out as many shells as you can. We usually stick it in a bucket and run the hose in it for a couple of hours, swirling it around occasionally, then put it in the tank.
  9. Due to a previous booking at the National Aquarium, our club meeting on Wednesday September 19th will be held at The Faraday Centre. The Faraday Centre is owned and operated by the Hawke’s Bay Cultural Trust and operate in tandem with the Hawke’s Bay Museum. It provides resources for educators to teach children about the physical sciences and is dedicated to preserving and demonstrating regional technology of significance. We will be having a tour around the facility, so bring the kids, there are a lot of interesting things to look at. This means there will be no auction this month. The address is: The Faraday Centre 1 Faraday St (between Thackeray and Carlyle Streets) NAPIER 7:30pm start as usual.
  10. How old is your tank Nicolette? I always get ginger/brown algae in a new tank for a couple of months at least. The snails get rid of most of it after a while. I have ambulia in my two foot community tank. It doesn't handle the higher temps that you would need for Discus too well.
  11. These bits on the bottom of the plant. http://www.aquaonline.com.br/content/view/999/53/
  12. lol! The last thing you would think of checking! Good luck with the fill.
  13. Won't the Gorilla Snot make it worse? If your frame is straight, as is the bottom of your tank, stufing somthing under each end will make the ply bend in the middle when the tank is full...

6025, but once again, the little leggie things that clip it to the magnet are snapping off, and this is my second bracket. Despite the two year guarantee, it may be getting the two pack adhesive treatment next time.
