    Beetroot

Some more info here. http://www.aquaticplantcentral.com/foru ... .php?id=58 Sometimes we get Hemigraphis in the shops here labeled as 'Beetroot' as well, which is more of a marginal, and perishes in a tropical tank.
  2. oooo... nice button polyps...
  3. A few mm? I have at least 15mm of Aquatic mix, then about 20mm of small gravel on top. I also put a thin layer of propogating sand underneath the Aquatic Mix, my theory on this was to stop it going stagnant on the bottom and try and get some circulation going on down there. Don't know if it does or doesn't make any difference, though!
  4. But that would be telling, Caryl! There is nothing specific organised for the Monday, so this leaves people free to decide what time they wish to leave the Bay, and what they want to do beforehand - or, as I suspect may be more the case, what time they have get up on Monday morning! I will find out what the timetable for Saturday is, Sharronpaul and post it here.
  5. Very nice. It does not appear to be on the NPPA banned list, but it's probably more of a case whether anyone has imported any into NZ. I hate looking on the Tropica website - tooooo many nice things which we probably can't get over here! This one is my favourite: http://www.tropica.com/article.asp?type ... tic&id=609

  7. Hi Loopy Just tick everything EXCEPT the 'Observer' box. This should total $123.00 plus what accomodation you require at the bottom.

    Dwarf Gourami's

I have two in a tank of similar size, and, as with Milet, quite a few other fish as well. If you are looking at getting a pair, the male can become aggressive towards the female. Ours got nicknamed 'Meanie' because of his behavior. We have curbed the constant chasing around the tank by letting it get rather overgrown with plants, so she has plenty of places to hide from him, otherwise, as soon as he spots her, he chases her.
  9. I would severly doubt if he had actually set foot in the place, he just seemed to delight in making very flippant and sometimes rather rude comments about everything.
  10. You could use bottled RODI water, I use Pure Dew, comes in 10 litre bottles from The Warehouse, for around six dollars. I use one bottle every one and a half to two weeks for a 105l tank.
  11. Ah well, that's what happens when you post unsubstantiated smart mouthed comments. Remember when you said that you would be interested in seeing his tanks when you were in Melbourne, Wasp? He nearly had a fit.
  12. There were two types for sale, Red Pine and Green Pine.
  13. ok, smartypants, the aquatic plant, commonly known as Red Pine.
  14. I am having trouble sorting this out, any help would be appreciated...
  15. Hmm I've got the ones in the third pic down, the redish ones, there is even one stuck on the side of one of my astrea snails! http://www.reefkeeping.com/issues/2005-01/rs/index.php
  16. Dang, Ira, I hope you are wrong... See how big these things get? http://starbulletin.com/98/01/23/news/oceanwatch.html Mine only have two dangly bits, not a whole bunch like those described here.
  17. Daltons Aquatic mix is rather like fine soil, and as soon as you add water, it turns to mud, so washing it is going to waste a great percentage, and nigh on impossible. I just chuck mine in, then put the stones on top. Put a plate or saucer on top, then pour the water onto this to partialy fill the tank to about 60mm. Remove the plate and position and insert your plants into the substrate. When this is done, put the plate/saucer back in and carefully fill the tank with water. The purpose of the plate is to stop the water gouging holes in you substrate and allowing the Aquatic mix to end up floating around in the tank, and ultimately, when it settles, on top of your stones. Needless to say, no mater how careful you are, a bit of Aquatic mix clouding the water is inevitable, and it will settle after a while, and you can vacuum it out. HTH
  18. Pics of tanks up and running... The three tanks. The left hand tank, which has coloured lights on the side and a sequential bubble-jet show, no fish. Right hand tank is the same. Centre tank. (don't you just love the carpet?) Some of the inhabitants of the centre tank
  19. A better view of the tank in situ, here: http://www.adana.co.jp/_e_products/
  20. Hi, and welcome. Ah yes, the ol' 'hmm, these fish aren't compatible, need anther tank' problem?
  21. Ever wondered how Amano gets those stunning tank shots? This is no 'point and click' stuff relying on the tank lights! http://www.aquatic-plants.org/articles/ ... es/18.html from: http://www.aquatic-plants.org/articles/ ... index.html I like the bit about the hairdryer.
  22. Phew, Alan. I bet you're sitting there thinking, 's**t, that was close'. Just as well the whole shelf didn't come down as well.
