I have a 300litre tank which is currently housing 7 jewel cichlids. The decor consists of many rocks piled together to make plenty of hiding holes. Of course the Jewels have claimed all their territories and are quite aggressive when one ventures into another home. I got the Jewels for free to help cycle the tank with the idea of getting rid of them and keeping a Malawi tank. Given that the rocks are silicone'd together, I have zero chance of netting them to move them out. My question is that I've just brought a Cyrtocara Moorii, Copadichromis Borleyi Red Fin Kadango and a Red Jacobfreibergi Firebird Peacock all around the same size as the Jewel's. Am I likely to have issues with the Jewels killing my new fish? or should I try and trap the jewels out before the new ones go in? Cheers,

My son decided to empty a full container of freeze dried brine shrimp into my 2 foot guppy breeding tank (my fault for leaving it in reach) and now the water has gone a greenie color. I removed all the leftover food and did a partial water change. I repeated the water changes every few days but the water goes green again almost overnight. I eventually did a 90% water change with the same end result. I've added extra filtration in the form of air stones and have left the light off. None of the fish seem to be unhappy but I can't seem to get the water back to it's original clarity. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanx for the advice guys. They both came up to inspect the food this morning. One of them even took a lunge for some before a swarm of neons beat them to it... I'll try feeding the neons on the other side of the tank this arvo and see how it goes. Thanx again.

I recently brought two small angelfish to go into my community tank. The tank is two foot squared and have roughly 40 neons, 1xBristlenose, 4xLemon Tetra's and a SAE. There are a lot of hiding places among the plants and driftwood. The problem is the Angels haven't eaten since I got them. One of them seems to be rather aggressive towards the other and is constantly chasing him away from his little area of the tank. They have both started moving around the tank more but when it comes to feeding time they just hover around and seem to just "watch" the others eat. I've tried feeding flakes, pellets, frozen meal and blood worms without any interest. I'm a little paranoid as I've never had much luck with Angels in the past and I really want them to reach maturity. Should I be worried that they aren't eating after 5 days of being in the tank?

I don't really follow the races mate, even though my last name is very familiar with the ford fans. I'm actually in a small town a little out of Bathurst, but I'm a truck driver and I go past your uncles place quite often. Small world aye

I'm not sure what it's like over there, but unfortunately we do have a lot of fish shops that don't know half of what they should. I was in a local one the other day and they had a tank of Gourami's with white spot. The girl knew nothing about the condition but did say she would tell the owner. Two days later.. they are still for sale. I spose they'll either die or get brought by some unsuspecting newbie. Usually around the major cities you'll find a few good stores, but they are few and far between. I order all my fish online these days.

I'm currently doing up a 4x2x2 to house African Cichlids from lake Malawi. This is my first attempt with African's. I'd like to get a few Mbuna's but I wanted a larger focal point for the open area's of the tank. Something that sticks with the Malawi biotope but isn't likely to make meals out of the Mbuna's. Does anyone have any ideas?

So would a 4x2x2 be ok for a fully grown oscar and perhaps a pleco? assuming filtration is up to scratch of course.

My beta has been showing some unusual problems since his last spawn. Firstly his dorsal and tail fins started to curl up toward the tip and then a fungus started growing on them. I used some fungus cure which seemed to fix the fungus up and then eventually the curled bits of fin just fell off. He's been in isolation since then and now one of his gill plates has been sticking out just slightly in an almost flared position. I have no idea what it is! All the water parameters are fine and ive been feeding him live blackworms and frozen bloodworms. Ive noticed that he has been alot more aggressive too lately. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Ive got myself into a situation where I'm trying to establish several new tanks. I'm aware of the importance of cycling a tank but I also understand it can take quite awhile to do and I'm kinda in a hurry. To try and speed the process up a bit, I've added a bag of bio noodles into the water of an already cycled tank, which leads to my questions; 1. How long roughly would it take for the bio noodles to become "seeded" with bacteria? 2. Once they have become seeded, how long would it take to cycle a new tank once they have been added to the water? Thanks for any advice.

Ive been trying to get my 2 male firemouths to feed off the surface without any luck so far. Id like to be able to feed them live surface foods but Im lost for anymore ideas. ANy help wld be appreciated.

Well I picked up my two firemouths today and they got home no dramas!!! The trip ended up being a tad over 2 hours because I was forced to stop into the home brew shop for some supplies... They are at the moment sussing out their new home and it took all of 10 seconds for the bigger one to claim the best cave!!! Funny how even at 4cm's they are already showing alot of personality!!

I had that algae not long ago after going away for a week and the light timers didnt trip.... I took all the plants out and removed all the algae that I could from the leaves. I dropped the light right down and did regular water changes... I got rid of most of it that way and then the remaining algae seemed to dissapear after about 2 weeks!!! Someone on hear I think mentioned not to resort to chemical usage. I was lucky that I didnt need to.

actually i drive a landcruiser 79series complete with meat hanging racks and over a tonne of accessories!!! So the drive will be slower than both fords and holdens!!!! But for the records, Holdens are better!!! :evil:
