  1. Yeah ours are the same size we got them from the same place.. Presume everyone in nz got them the same size, They are small but I guess they can sell them at that size because were all buying them.. They are a perfect size to go into our grow out tank with all the other babies so we dont care..
  2. Yeah ours look awesome too cant wait to see them bigger in the big tank.. Peanuts why wait for your tank to get setup? I dont know how long they will be avaliable and you wouldn't need a huge tank to hold some until you get the bigger tank up.. Would hate for you to miss out these look like great fish..
  3. Yeah we got 6 today as well
  4. Do lots of water changes 50% a day until it goes away....

Are they rediculiously expensive like the rocks in most LFS's?
  6. Yeah agreed with sharn, the general rule is to buy the biggest you can afford (the most flow rate). Beware that cheaper ones that tend to quote flow rates just dont seem to perform as well as the better brands (IMO based on a comparison between an eheim and an aqua one).. Maybe as sharn suggested more expensive ones quote it with media in and cheaper ones quote without media to make them sound better.... Who knows!
  7. Welcome, we need more people that keep africans on here Whatcha got?
  8. Why not give it a go They are only small anyway aren't they? If they breed and you dont see it then grow the babies out until you can confirm they are what they are supposed to be..
  9. Yeah I guess if you have the tank space to keep these "unique" fish in where they can live a good life and theres no possibility of them breeding then its all good.. Personally I catch any when they're young enough to still be food and feed them to something else so theres no possibility of them breeding.. I think its inevitable as alot of fish are becoming more and more inbred, and I dont have the time/space for deformed fish.. Ask any discus breeder how many they cull!
  10. Where did you get the kingsizi's from?
  11. Yeah thats why I have to restick it I brought a tank and im attempting to reuse some of the piping by putting a join in some of the bits that had to be broken to seperate the tank/stand.. Ill go with the stuff from mitre 10 the guy tried to sell me last time..
  12. if theres not enough airation then lower your temp (no lower than about 25C) and chuck some more air stones in... How are the other fish in your tank doing?
  13. Hi I have to join some PVC piping for the sump in my freshwater tank (I know this is saltwater but you guys tend to build more sumps...) I obviously need something aqurium safe and dont trust the guys at mitre 10 to tell me what is or isn't safe.. The stuff that has been used in the rest of the joins is blue ive tried silicon and (as you would expect) this didn't work..

    heater died

Or you could use large drink bottles full of hot water throughout the night to keep them warm.. Or depending how many fish try and transfer them into something in the hotwater cupboard?
  16. Hey I dont know if your talking to me or markLB heres our tank. 5ft tank 540 litres with coral sand and a few rocks not too many.. 17. I find the easiest way to do it is to use a 2 litre ice cream container half to 2/3 fill it with warm water and disolve about a tablespoon of rock salt (from the supermarket) in it. Stick however many eggs you want in (usually just a tiny amount) and stick it in the hot water cupboard... When you want to harvest them use a torch at one side for a while and then shyphon or use an eyedropper to get them out and sift them through a stocking.
  18. If your tank your planning to put them in is too small then they may scrap a bit, if they're not getting hassled i would leave them in the community for 2 weeks and either strip or put them into a tank to spit naturally. If you do strip at 2 weeks the fry probably wont be full free swimming just wait until they are before you feed them. They may spit early if its their first go...
  19. He'd only be 4 to 5 inches the girl we gots about 2 to 3 inches. They just chill out in the tank and dont cause any problems to anyone were hoping they will breed evenually.

    coral rock

I just rinsed mine and the cats where we got it from had been ussing it as a litter box and the fish are fine.. I did put some charcoal in the filter for a day or so just in case but yeah a bit of salt etc wont hurt your africans in fact I add some to my tank anyway..
  21. If shes fine in the tank shes in (ie not being harassed too much) then leave her for about 2 weeks and then remove her strip her and stick her back in... If shes being harassed then you can take her and put her in her own tank to spit naturally but we prefer to leave then in the tank so they keep some of their standing in the tank and strip them at 2 weeks so they dont get too thin for holding for 3-4 weeks.. Good luck

    coral rock

I believe that coral rock will only buffer a certain amount it wont just keen making your ph higher and higher, obviously more will have more effect but you should be fine with 20 kg in a 230litre. We have 30kg in a 540 litre and I dont know what the ph is i dont bother testing it but im sure its fine the fish look good and are breeding etc.. To wash it just use running water until it runs clear and do small amounts at a time it should wash the gunk out..
  23. They're good fish, they look great and seem to get on well with everyone else in the tank and the male is pretty big.. What do you want to know about them?
