  1. I to have tried to do the old well they're getting on now or skimp on recommendations and it has always gone and bit me in the bum.. It happens fast and they can be fine one day gone the next be prepared to supervise lol maybe you should have brought the big tank
  2. Thanks it just hurts The airforce doc wanted to get a orth surgeon to look at the nerve damage but as the wound was only 3cm's long but deep they said it was too small for them to operate on so hopefully it comes right by itself.. Guess ill have to slow down now lol
  3. I am looking at getting one but wondering how it goes and how powerful it is.. Would be looking at running 20+ airstones/filters off it so it may not be good enough.. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Home-living/Pe ... 932896.htm Or can anyone recommend a suitably prices large pump that would do the job.. On another note does anyone have a big airpump or any air powered filters for sale? Will repost in P T and E if no replies from here..
  4. Or bloody unco fish keepers... I was out in the fishroom feeding my jullies and pulled the front half of the lid back to get some microworms in to the babies pulled it a little too far and it fell onto my foot one corner puncturing it An awful lot of blood came out but I just got my wife to bandage it and waited for a few hours but pain got worse and noticed some tingling etc in my toes, off to medical to get some morphine and find out I may have damaged a nerve, had to get xrays (and have them dig around in it) to make sure no glass is left get some stiches.. The only bad thing is now the drugs are all wearing off and my foot hurts! lol I don't know why I keep fish!
  5. Yeah I saw Phill's comment on his auction, I am unaware of any sort of virus and people do breed these guys so you should be able to track some down I am loosly looking for some nice ones too so will let you know what I find..
  6. Yes it is a shame, but we are hijacking this thread  Maybe we should start another and track down some of these fish I would happily devote a few tanks to get something going again..
  7. Use photobucket then it works and its free

    chiller

Is this a plan for your big tank? I was thinking with all this tank of chillers and stuff it would be relatively easy to make one out of an old intercooler some piping and a pump (or our sump return) lol don't know how much they cost as to if this would be worth the hassle as I don't need one..
  11. I too have been wondering where she has gone, I have tried to contact her several times as well and have been worried that something maybe wrong
  12. Yep fish like that need to spread around so they're not lost.. Im sure when they were common noone cared but now noone knows where they are.. 10 or so years ago I had some of these http://www.aquahobby.com/gallery/e_Dicr ... ntosus.php Now where are they? Who knows I didn't manage to breed the pair I had as I was 15 at the time and was only allowed 3 tanks lol I would love to get some these days and they were relatively common when I got mine on the list etc I doubt anyone has seen these guys for years.. It is a shame because the fish have been in nz so theres no reason why they shouldn't still be floating around heres hoping some are somewhere and someone finds them and gets them going
  13. Good question I haven't heard of or seen any for sale for a while..
  14. I just like things that grow big and eat other people.. But once I get my man eating croc ill have to start off feeding it homeless children and then starve it and try and get it eating shrimp..
  15. Yeah alot of them move their babies using their mouths Depends what you like and can source really.
  16. Electric yellow's are about your only option most of the other africans dont do too well in pairs.. Even yellows your best to have 1m to multiple females but they're pretty docile, or you could do a trio or pair of peacocks most of them are pretty passive and stay relatively small or take ages to get big.. You can get some interesting mouth brooding dwarf cichlids but they're not very common I don't even think they're in NZ..
  17. My microworms dont do well at all uncovered even though my lids have holes in them? Random I know if I forgot to cover a culture thats going well and come back its the only one that hasn't produced but when covered it starts again.. Alan I hear your whiteworm cultures are pretty legondary, do you line your wooden boxes? And where do you keep them?
  18. Fins should be straight and not bent etc, as for anything else just look for good healthy fish and what colours etc you want.
  19. Just run the airline outside not the pump..
  20. I wouldn't do it, in a breeding tank there is really no need just stick the fish in let them spawn pull them out in a few weeks you can add a bristlenose once they're free swimming
  21. Even fish that guard there eggs can have them disappear overnight by a bristlenose or even during the day if they're small and the bristlenose big and they just cruise on it and eat them while the little fish are trying to smash them..
  22. I just hit the lid with a steak knife and it makes a crack not a hole and then nothing can get in or out of it.. And yeah I think they need to breath I have often thought they would have enough air in there to breath as they're only small but have always put a crack or 2 in there.
  23. Bristlenoses will eat cherrybarb egg's with my egg layers I noticed very small rates of fry or even none when bristlenoses are present as they eat all the egg's. The reason others are having success with yellows guppies etc is because these fish dont lay eggs well the yellow's do but they are released when they can swim and the bristlenoses cant catch them. Best to add bristlenoses once the fry are free swimming.

    jebo 815

Sucking on it when its empty means you wont get any crap in your mouth I do it all the time if you sit there sucking all day you will drink it obviously.. If there is no water to wash the gunk out then you wont get any all it needs is a small suck to start the syphon. Have you tried with the filter below your tank? Maybe that is the problem, if your syphoning through the filter it will fill up the filter and right through where the pump operates so it should start unless your filter has a leak and air is getting in.. I have had no problems with my 819 apart from the quality of the taps but thats probably me being unco and breaking them off.
