  1. Check out the tanks here http://www.cichlid-forum.com/tanks/
  2. lol why plant it You can keep some plants with africans I think it was johannes that posted a pic of one of his tank planted out with electra's in it?
  3. lol hmm I know where you getting them from I was keen too but couldn't find any info either Your one up on me with finding a pic.. Hopefully you get them and get them breeding Stu said they came from Mekhaela (afrikan on here) so maybe when she is back on she will know.
  4. Someone posted a similair post a while ago and they decided to worm their's.. I have kept them with big africans and they had no trouble keeping up for food.. I have seen some clown loaches around and the condition of the ones being imported looks rather poor
  5. Possibly phosphates in your water? From what I've heard sometimes your supply can have phostphates from farms etc..
  6. Would love to but im in New caledonia over easter working hard
  7. I think what Caryl is illuding to is the fact that she doesn't need to do anything about it as it would be more hassle than its worth the fish is happy and healthy and living a good life so why screw with it.. If she wanted rid of it the best way is to catch the fish and drop some meth blue straight on it and it will go away
  8. How many fish do you have in the tank and how big is it? Are you doing all your tests etc to check that everything is ok? Keep doing your water changes. I use rock salt from the supermarket I think tonic salt will do the same. The wonder whitespot cure works well however what other fish do you have in the tank? If you do a google search on whitespot it will bring up more info that you should read on how to treat it and its live cycle etc..
  9. Go and find some sheets of thick poly and put poly all around it tape it all up then there is no way it can be damaged
  10. If your going to add that white spot cure be careful if you have clown loaches or any scaleless fish in your tank it can kill them sometimes you have to do a half dose.. Also with increased temp make sure you increase the airation (or can if the fish all start gasping at the surface). I have had no trouble with getting rid of whitespot with salt alone it does the job 1TSB per 20L.
  11. See this thread I asked the same thing http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/cockat ... 28600.html He is unwilling to share you have to buy his business to get it..
  12. I think that mollies and guppies cross and swords and platties cross.. However you probably wont have too much success with breeding with swords in there mine seem to eat all fry
  13. But without the support of the hobby you will have no business Who else is going to buy your fish?
  14. There is a cheap one on K road my wife used to go there when she lived in central Auck's they're certainly not cheap (or easy to get into) up there! We also hated the fact that you were treated like sheep up there the doctors had no idea who you were, but in smaller type practices the doctors know you by name and will actually go out of their way to help you out.. LOL Actually hated that about most places in Auckland..
  15. lol but you basically just said you had a treatment that could help these people out with the appisto's they are having trouble with and have said that you will only pass it on to whoever buys your business Yes thats fine if you were getting the appisto's treating them and onselling them and they were all healthy from there.. In the end we are all hobbiests and if your willing to help people out not be cagey it will have kick back's even if its someone saying thank you and enjoying their fish or someone coming out to visit you and buy fish see what you do.
  16. Sweet they are nice looking fish Are they in with the tropheus? And how are they going, are they breeding well?
  17. The jacob strain I got from down there is awesome.. I don't have any pics as the male is only just colouring up but his male is around 15cm's + and looked like this http://www.cichlid-forum.com/profiles/s ... hp?id=1383 With the ones that are pictured the males loose the white tips to the tail and some on top of the dorsal both still very nice fish.. Johannes, are your's yellow or orange? One pic shows up orange one yellow the flash does random things.. Did you manage to breed those guys yet?
  18. Of course if you contact a breeder you can get them cheaper probably max $10 at 2-3cm's, maybe $20-25 sexable.. The breeder I got some of mine off is in wellington That is the only way to make sure you get the strain you want by buying off a breeder who has grown the babies out to see if they are are all true and you can view or see photos of the parents.. Have seen some randoms come off the list..
  19. Not a rude question at all everyone can walk into a pet shop and see retail prices.. Baenshi were around $50 around 75% sexable, unsure if they are still on the list, even if they are they will probably differ from what I have as the lists seem to be very variable. Jacob's are on there around 2-3cm's current retail is $55, however they may not show up like that male same reason as above. The last lot brought in 2 different strains which I have both of.

    Bristlenoses

Ok I don't know much about these guys but I have a heap that keep breeding the biggest male is maybe 10cm's long and hasn't grown has bristles but they're small.. I picked up a male in the weekend and he is HUGE like at least 15cm's definately a bristlenose of some sort but he is massive and his bristle's look like little cabbage tree's they're huge and branch out at the top... I would love to breed from him but because of the difference I am wondering if he is a different species or huge freak from a different line that has different bristles.
  21. Heres some pics for you Baenshi - A very bad pic he has coloured alot more since this pic but is in my big display tank and I haven't managed to get a descent pic since.. Flash makes fish have more blue in body than it does. Jacob - one of the 2 strains I have.
  22. Oh and try and post in the cichlid section
  23. What fish are you looking for exactly? The first few pics are a dead ringer of my baenshi that I am breeding.. Others are a range of different species some of which are around.. http://images.google.co.nz/images?hl=en ... ages&gbv=2 I haven't heard of that name thats the problem with using common names try and go through the cichlid-forum or whatever gallery and get descent names..
  24. Its a real shame you wont share your experiences to help others who are fed up with it.. These people refuse to buy dwarf cichlids at all off you or anyone so you are cutting your market by not telling them there is some hope in keeping them alive..
  25. Its all on the maf website.. Or contact them they can fill you in.. In summary $$ are involved If you have the money and time then go for it!
