  1. I wouldn't recommend people who dont really know what they're doing go and look through the profiles there are heaps to look at and alot of similair looking fish especially peacocks and mbuna.. Its helpful to confirm what someone has said, also alot of the pics on there are of show or wild caught fish from specific locations and may not to typical of the strain we have in NZ..
  2. Im sure if she came over here I could sell her on the african's idea But a tank that deep would look good as a discus tank, its just a pain to plant it out..
  3. lol get africans you know you want to! My personal advice would be not to bother planting a tank that deep, it can look awesome! But it is a bloody nightmare to plant the plants and fix it up all the time, plus you have to have a heap of light to get to the bottom of the tank and get plants to grow there..
  4. That sounds like a software problem to me.. But would be your video card packing a spaz.. Have you tried updating windows? And your video drivers? Does your PC freeze even when your not playing the game?
  5. I agree Whats broken Shadowfax? Send me a PM I might be able to fix it for free (after you've got your refund that is). I have talked to a few backyard small appliance repairs as it was something I might have considered doing. I wouldn't do it that way I would go somewhere where you get salary. They were having huge issues with fixing stuff, basically to fix anything you have to buy the book for it (which cost alot of money) and this cost has to be passed onto the customer.. Say someone brings in an older TV you have to buy a manual for $100 plus an hours labour at say $50 and then you have to tell the customer that its $150 plus $xxx in parts and more labour to fix it they get angry and say keep the bloody thing and buy a new one..
  6. That is a very big article and good info on white spot But have you ever seen white spot gather in one place on one fish from the top to the bottom of the fish? I'm not sure its whitespot, also from keeping africans I haven't seen much white spot at all on them.

    YAAAY!

Hmm sorry to say that I think it does look Royal blue to me.. Your fish looks deeper in the body and a different shape to the chilumba I have and have seen. Maybe others will add an opinion, someone who breeds royal blues? Heres some of the pics http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e396/ ... 1201755317 http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e396/ ... 1201755271 And these are the photos of the chilumba that are around nz.. http://www.aquaticcommunity.com/fish/chilumba.php Id say if your brought them as royal blues 5-6 years ago thats what they are as royal blues have been around for ages, and a few of the best breeders didn't have chilumbas until they were imported 2 or so years ago. It always pays not to change the name of fish you buy as you have sold them now and what do people have? fish you brought as royal blues but decided were chilumba's? It doesn't really matter as they're all stuartgranti but now for example I wont touch them for breeding and now people will be passing on royal blues as chilumba's because thats what you brought them as..

    YAAAY!

Oh yeah fair enough, any chance of getting a descent pic of the male and female? I thought that chilumba's had only been around in NZ for the last 2 or so years thats when they started showing up anyway.. It is possible they were in earlier.. What did you buy your pair as? Chilumba? Or the very similair Royal blue?
  9. Thats what it is and thats what I said in the unanswered question. They're cool fish a good predator but not overly agro
  10. I would go with here and cichlid-forum noone here would care we like to help and have some idea whats floating around in NZ..
  11. Tank looks good What else you planning to stock it with?
  12. I know what you mean It is very close to breeding behavour, I think it stems back to the fact that in the lake the male has to look big and macho so that the female will breed with him, its the same deal with the fighting the fish are trying to make themselves look bigger and stronger than the other fish they flick their heads and circle while fighting.. As smidey said you know its serious when they start lip locking!
  13. If he has a scratch it should heal up, if your worried I usually chuck salt into the tank (not too much) this can help heal the wound or make them feel a little better, you could qtine him but its probably not need if he's eating etc..

    YAAAY!

Sweet well obviously Carl wants a male or 2 so it should be sweet Cheers I was hoping you had them in there own tank obviously breeding in a mixed tank isn't good and if this was the case I wouldn't touch the females, have you considered selling your female chilumba? Have heard any females in a mixed male tank increase aggression as all the males fight and she can have a hard time

    YAAAY!

Yeah it is hard And they grow slow good food and maintenance can help but still ages for them to colour up. Make sure you send Carl down some females in that batch though, im gunning for at least one Did you breed these in your mixed tank or in a tank of their own?
  16. Any chance of a pic? White spot is only spec's the size of a grain of table salt very small I would doubt you would get a concentrated line of them from top to bottom of a fish..
  17. Sometimes signs of aggression or terriotorial disputes can be very similair to spawning behaviours this is what I would put it down to.. Unless all the fish in your tank aren't coloured up and he is mistaking a subdom male for a female but I haven't heard of that before..
  18. Baby giraffes look like mini versions of the adult ones except you wont find ones with blue faces..
  19. I just used to stick it in like flake.. However I did find large amounts were wasted as it got stuck to air bubbles and as the popped got stuck up on the side of the tank out of the water if that makes sense..
  20. lol they may do if they get bad advice
  21. They were joking around, it goes back to another now non-existant member asking stupid questions about housing arowana's in small tanks... Yes there is alot of info in books but alot of that is down to the person who wrote the book's experience and a beginner may not understand it and books may or may not answer their questions. Here they can get alot of differing opionions form their own decision and even get feedback on advice given.. Nothing beats learning from others mistakes and seeing what others have done
  22. lol im not going to comment, those photos are out of 4 different tanks out of the 12 I have running atm.
  23. I think if you click on each fish you can find out more info and read little profiles on them including size and some info on food maybe.. Interesting to read that the common bully looks after its babies I thought that was mainly only cichlids cool to know.. "....When it is time to breed I change from my usual spotted colour to black with an orange tip on my fin. I will guard my young until they hatch and I attack if you come near...."
  24. I leave my lights on for 12 hours a day but that is probably too much, I'd probably start with 8 hours a day and see how it all goes if your plants dont grow and your getting no algae build up maybe increase it a bit, if algae and everything goes nuts maybe bump it back a bit. Some people only turn their lights on when they want to look at the fish but obviously if you have plants they need them.
  25. I feed my fish around 4-5times a day sometimes more little and often gets fish well conditioned fast and babies growing faster too However I might add I do have strick maintenance good filtration and I know how much to feed my fish as to not cause problems. Also all tanks have scavenger fish and all babies are in barebottom tanks and fed mostly microworms that stay alive for a few days if not eaten. I would recommend to a beginner 1-2 times daily only as much as your fish can eat in a couple of minutes. As for how many hours you turn your lights on it depends on if your tank is planted etc..
