  1. Awesome glad to hear your house will be full of them in no time, there hasn't been much work on the fish club here lately not really enough people to justify it..
  2. Hey and welcome you'll have fun here and have a fishroom in that spare room before too long
  3. Yeah but those catfish are mainly predators they wont help with algae.. lol how do you guys have left over food in your african tanks?

    lfs???

Guppies epecially are hard to find descent ones I was lucky to get some awesome ones off sorcha on here but I know our LFS wont touch ones from the import list as they all die

    YAAAY!

Ahh I see tropheus when I got mine he only had one female but I guess any later females are now from dodgy females.. Anything to make a buck aye?

    lfs???

Maybe you could have told them I know its their job to check the tanks and take out dead ones but they may not have noticed.. Probably guppies off the wholesale list that are already sick dead and dying before they arrive.

Glad you sorted it Anna I hate to say it but I told you so lol Good luck contacting people and telling them that they didn't buy what they thought they did I would appreciate it but still not be happy.. Yes agree'd with firenz Chilumba's are very peaceful and small, my one was bigger than the other peacocks in my tank but when I first introduced him he got beaten to within an inch of his life in a very short time (about as long as it took me to catch him out again), he let all the smaller peacocks push him around even with a tank rearrange. I have managed to get him into the tank now just from luck but he isn't the most dominant which is why his colour isn't great at the moment, can't wait to find him a girl and get him into his own tank

    New Discus

Don't quote me on it but I think that spotty discus are poorer quality, nothing different in the fish but I dont think the purists try and breed for spotty fish
  10. Peacocks, demasoni, maybe zebras but id say not as thet get agro when older and may take over your tank depends if your willing to sell them on if they cause problems or setup another tank

Mine is around 9-10cm's pretty big 2 years old now he is the shape he will continue to be for the rest of his life, nowhere near as high as yours is which is why I know yours is a royal blue or other.. And im confused you changed the name, that is what ken's male looked like also

    YAAAY!

Pics of my chilumba they are not the best pics he's a tricky little bugger and not that coloured as he's not that dominant chilling in my display tank until I find a girl for him

My thoughts exactly after watching the video, definately differs from what I have seen sold as chlumba ill try and get a pic of mine soon
  14. I keep bristlenoses in all of my african tanks as well, and they're sweet they have even started breeding in the high ph and hard water so guess they're happy as can be

Thats the problem with peacocks, if you don't get them from reliable sources it is impossible to tell the difference, your female could be a royal blue red shoulder, maleri or any number of other females that the previous buyer brought from an assorted tank or a pure source who knows?

Yeah it would be hard but it would be the right thing to do.. If I brought a fish as something and found out myself it wasn't I would be annoyed.. But if the seller emailed me and explained it would make more sense.. Yes alot of people brought your fish because they were pretty but they can and probably will breed for them and they will probably pass them on so pays for them to know whats going on with them. aAnd there may have been people like I would have that were planning to buy them to breed with their fish, I would have noticed before I bred them with my chilumba's though as they're a different shape but I would have been angry to find out I had brought something that was incorrectly id'd.
  17. So they did have ich in the end? The couple of times ive seen it in my africans I have treated it with salt and the fish have kept breeding and stayed happy as Sounds weird to hear about 2 males trying to breed esp a male tropheus and nimbo from different lakes lol

    YAAAY!

Yeah fair enough and then you'll have to contact all the people who you sold them too and tell them what you sold them wasn't actually chilumba (if thats the case which im pretty sure of) and put that right too.. I know that it probably doesn't matter to you what people sell them as, but to those of us that put alot of time energy money and passion into keeping the cichlids in NZ pure it is a big deal.. Mike any chance of some pics of yours? Even if you email them to me ill happily post them for you..
  19. Sweet go for it then Free's my favorite price
  20. It could work but why not just use poly like everyone else its cheap easy to find and works well
  21. I had a sword that I thought had dropsy recently she was swelling up line like a pine cone and all sad and not eating etc.. I stuck her in a small container with epsoms and melafix and left her alone for a while she regained her appetite and scales went down however she was left with a bend her her body that wasn't there before and although she recovered I got rid of her to ensure she didn't breed and pass on any dodgy gene's. Mred you know your welcome to call though and say hi both Win and I would welcome the visit, if you do call through get in touch let me know what you may have for sale
  22. I have rung nz couriers and they have told me they take live fish Nzpost aren't supposed to take live fish by policy our local depot has packed a crap with us and we have to drive to marton and send them there but labeled with live fish etc they laugh and have come to know us, have had no problems..

    YAAAY!

Mike Did you get yours from Ken? Its a shame when people get ripped off paying top $$ for fish that aren't what they're supposed to be. From the pics that Anna has provided I'm sure her's are royal blues too they are rather thick not long like chilumba.. It maybe hard to tell as the pic's are not directly side on. Did you look at the pics Mike?
