  1. she's a battler this one. still holding on. i forgot to mention, her eyes have sunken. any ideas on what the problem could be? the other one didn't have this issue.
  2. it seems that i may lose my other pleco. she has been moved to a seperate tank for melafix treatment as her tail is falling apart and her fins are tattered. she is breathing very lightly and doesn't move unless removed from water (i thought she had died) and then its only very slight movement. i will be very surprised if she lasts the night. did a parameter test on tank before doing a %50 water change Ph: 6.0 Ammonia: 0.25 Nitrite: 0 Nitrate: 40 tank has been running for a few months and the only fish in there were the 2 plecs and a BGK (who is now the only resident)
  3. does anyone know if copella arnoldi (splashing tetra) are available here in NZ?? i think it would be fun to breed them in their unusual way
  4. anyone disagree with Furan 2?? i have used this before in my guppy tank and it had no adverse affect on my BN's. have moved rex to another tank now. had no problems getting him out of the tank at all, which is extremely unusual for him. he hates nets and normally theres a 1/2hr chase around the tank dislodging eveything that he can just to catch him.
  5. rex is sick. he grazed his "nose" a while ago. i left it as he had done this to his head once and it cleared up by itself. this time it is fluffy white and there are other fluffly white patches on his face. he is currently in the middle of the tank standing on his tail proped up by a plant. what could it be and what can i use to treat it??? i will have to move him from the tank he's in as there is a knife in there and i don't want to treat if it my kill the knife. please help as i don't know how long he will last in this condition

  7. what i do with corgette is: peel (have found that my fish won't eat the outside) slice drop into a pot of boiling water for 1 min spread on oven try, cover and freeze (this stops pieces sticking together) once frozen, remove from tray, put in bag and put back in freezer. when you feed them, pull out required amount of pieces and drop in tank. As the corgette defrosts it sinks making it easier for the bottom dwellers to get to without having to add any foreign objects to the tank to hold it down and no chance of it dislodging from a suction cup and floating back to the top.
  8. i'm having the same problem in 1 of my guppy tanks (unfortunately the main one), so am interested in what everyone may suggest. i noticed white spot on 1 of my girls so have started treatment and tonight i had to pull out my lyre tail boy as his tail is, as nor_wester put it, feathering away. i put him in his own tank and added melafix, as i didn't want to put it in a tank i am treating with something else.
  9. the one i read said to use driftwood, but food is a good idea too

    Oh No!!

i'm sure, if need be, we can muster up all the wainui men on here to lift it for you who is there?? Chris, tim, Billaney, Banaro, peanuts husband, mark, etc...
  11. i have 2 chinese algae eaters (almost identical to the golden ones) that have grown up together. they do not attack each other or any of my other fish. they have become less effective against the algae since they have grown. i do know of a situation where a gae has taken a chunk out of another, about the size of a 5c piece. i believe it depends entirely on the fish as to how they behave and you can never really be certain of how that will be.
  12. cool!! hope to see you there as suphew ask, what part of welly are you in??
  13. yeah, thanks. on closer inspection i now see they all do  i only noticed it on 3 of them after i thought 1 had a piece of hair stuck in its mouth. now that they have decided to settle a little for the evening i see it on all of them. oh well, wait and see time again
  14. ok, i've done the google search and came back with body shape  but i have noticed the a few of mine have "whiskers", would that make them boys??
  15. (and just a hint of wainui water )
  16. the first trick i would like my fish to learn is to line up, in single file, and then slowly swim past me, do a little spin, and then wait on the bottom until the last one has finished. that way i can check each fish for any health issues and not have to worry about seeing the same fish 20 odd times or missing any out. now, would that be considered wishful thinking??

  21. hey guys, would it be better to discuss this in it's own thread? that way we can all get back to the original reason for this thread. i have heard, though never have done it myself, it a quick dip into a pot of boiling water.
