  1. i have recently purchased 6 little tanks. approx 230x175x175mm. they all differ slightly. total length (all 6 side by side) 1380mm. we have been able to set up the airation, that was the easy part, but we are having some issues with the heating. it's not cost effective to put a heater in each tank, and i'd be lucky to find any small enough i also do have the plug space for 6 of them. any idea for heating them?? also hoping to avoid cutting holes in any of them. thanks Colleen
  2. i don't. i have an on the sink filter attached to our taps. (though i don't think it does much anymore due to how old it is) i fill a pot from there, put on stove, bring to tank temp, and put in tank. no problems with any fish. the only time its different is with the wcmm's. then its straight from the filter to the tank. edit - Mark says he has been filling his tank like this (with the exception of the heating part) for the last 5yrs and have had no ill effects on the fish. or may be it's just the fish he keeps or the water.
  3. i have 2 questions about guppies 1, all females have a gravid spot? 2, only females have a gravid spot? thanks for your answer in advance
  4. i agree, but it works for now. and hey, it just means i will be getting another tank sometime soon as for the landscaping, i have the driftwood you gave my in the short/wide tank. unfortunatly our camera has decided to quit so i can't take any more pics yet.
  5. doesn't help at all. it says that rosy barbs are not compatible with glowlights or plecos and mine are living very happily together
  6. a work in progress. we are using 2 tanks as a divider between our lounge and dining room. tanks contain guppies. one houses a CAE, the other, 2 BN's view from lounge viem from dining room

    Temperature

all 3 of my tanks are set to 26oC. not too hot and not too cold.
  8. i have 3 tanks set at about 26oC. i can tell by touching the glass on all 3 if there is a temp problem. i also have one of those external stick on thermometers and an internal glass one.
  9. hard to tell. i'm hoping that my lyre tail is the father, but there are a number of possibilities.
  10. one of my gups gave me the greatest gift today. i got to watch her give birth. a truely amazing event. made my day and as mark said... .. the gift the keeps on giving! LOL :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:
  11. we have a base and sides. we need the end pieces of the little tank to complete it. thanks
  12. need help please. what is the best method of separating 2 pieces of glass? how do you cut through the silicon?? what do you use?? we have a very small tank we are going to make longer, but we need to pull it completely apart first. thanks
  13. if thats the plastic tube bit on the end, i have one you can borrow. i just don't have a hose that will fit it. i need to buy one as my community tank could probably do with a good gravel vac (seeing as though it's never had one)
  14. hello and welcome. nice tank. theres a lot of ideas on here of what you could out in with the angels and neons and if your still stuck, just ask. everyone here are always willing to help.
  15. my thought exactly. but it has to be in pinks, purples, blues and greens with just a hint of a shimmer. then it will match your dragon collection they are so cute 8)
  16. could someone please list a few plants that are suitable for a cold freshwater tank. the only fish that i have at the moment are WCMM and i hope to breed them. thanks
  17. well, i went to the extremes and did a 100% water change. took everything out; plants, gravel, etc. took some water out of the community tank and put it into a small plastic tank, put the guppies in to that (was looking a little cramped) and then, with the lid on, put that in the community tank to keep the fish warm and in clean water till i had refilled their tank. the tank is looking very bare at the moment. when i put the guppies back in, i was rewarded with 4 fry within 10mins. will be adding stuff slowly to the tank. Q. how do i make sure there is no algae left on my plants??? they are currently in a bag, floating in the community tank. i don't want to end up throwing them away as i have a clump of java moss about the size of a tennis ball that i don't want to lose
  18. this was posted earlier in the diy section http://www.bio-elite.com/waterbridge.htm
  19. thanks all. i am going to try the filter wool idea first, while i work on getting some more plants. if that doesn't work, then it will be the black out idea. if i can help it, i don't want to put any chemicals into the tank, so we'll see how it goes.
  20. filter is 700lt/hr.
  21. tank size is 915x380x400mm. i don't believe it's the tap water otherwise my community tank would have the same problem. the water in there is clear. most of these fish are juvenilles. all males are removed once sexed and they are in the community tank.
  22. yep. tank was green before the gravel went in. i put it in during the 2nd water change this week. ok. does anyone have any spare plants or cutting that they can give me? as the last lot i got my pleco enjoyed eating.
  23. my tank is green on sunday and wednesday nights i did a 75% water change and it hasn't changed. tank is by a window, but doesn't get any direct sunlight on it. currently contains approx 75 guppies and 1 CAE. i have removed all of the sand that was on the bottom and replaced it with gravel (purchased from pet shop. done on wednesday), plants are java moss and java fern. filter has a sponge and carbon. heater working fine - temp around 26oC lighting if raining - turned on around 10 - 10.30am lighting if sunny - turned on around 4 - 4.30pm lighting off at midnight everynight parameters unsure due to 2 large water changes in 1 week. inside of tank on glass there looks to be some algae colour varying shades between white and green. i think thats everything any ideas and what can i do??? it only takes 2 days after a water change to go back to the green it was. thanks
