  1. Midget and dwarf are not the same thing.
  2. When are you going to tell us what type of eggs? If they were makaws I might get mine back from the person I lent it to (for a share of the goodies)
  3. Can be a sign of TB also, but more likely what you suggest.
  4. Yes and yes. A lot easier when the weather is cooler and only when they are big enough and in good condition. Applies to all reptiles.
  5. I have 10. If you get organised you can grow on the neonates for a week then move to the next one and they end up all of a similar size and you can pick the size you want.
  6. They need heat to live, breed. hatch and grow on. There are a number of ways to breed them and I have seen quite a few different ways that work. What you need to do is find out what works for you. Temperature and moisture are critical.
  7. Could be riskey if both males---two females should be no probs. Why not wait until you return from holidays. There seems to be a few about. I am holding a few red golds till I can sex them, which will be into next year.
  8. What you are seeing could be skin flukes or if rubbing the gills could be gill flukes. You can see them under a microscope.
  9. Or bad water causing iratation
  10. Have a look in the dark with a torch when the lights are out. If whitespot looks like salt then velvet looks like pepper. It is probably one or the other.
  11. Don't try to bring plants back as MPI are a bit short on the sense of humour
  12. I wait until 50 grams but some say 45 grams (for females). However, if they are producing eggs it is no more hardship to produce fertile rather than infertile eggs. It takes me over a year to get them to 50 grams as I don't like to push them. Once they start breeding they don't usually put on much more weight.
  13. I have been making my own tanks for over 40 years and never had one leak or burst. The RTV does deteriorate over time though.
  14. I used a wobl pump which was out in the garage and in a noise control box I built. Noisy as. Still have it if interested. Used to do 60 tanks.
  15. In the cupboard 5 of the draws are full size and 5 are divided in half so it will take ten recently hatched and 5 a little bigger. The stand was recently purchased off trademe and was from proud paws northland shop. Have finished the top two enclosures but still working on the bottom one. Will be all leps.
  16. I am led to believe that the growing grass produces a hormone that stimulates the grass to grow and the locusts to breed. This may be why many people have trouble breeding locusts in the middle of winter and summer when the grass is pretty dormant or going to seed. I feed grass and bran. Some use bran/wheat germ.
  17. They are what I use now--a lot cheaper and better than the plug in ones. Easy to wire and wires protected by a cover. Histeresis 1 deg C and easy instructions for wiring and setting up. I mount them in an "L" shaped piece of wood glued to the lid of the enclosure. Will try to get pics Friday.
