  1. Thank you for your posts. It definitely looks like it will be cheaper to get a new tank.
  2. Hi, After my 3ft tank burst last night and looking into it being repaired, it looks like it will be cheaper to get a new one as suggested on an earlier post. Does anyone know of tank makers in the Wanganui/Palmerston North area? Thank you : )
  3. Tonight my 3 ft tank burst. I need to get it fixed asap as my fish are in a much smaller tank now. Might seem like a silly question but where do you go to get them siliconed? I am in Wanganui but can easily travel to Palmerston North : ) Its not something I can do as I can't do it neat enough. Thanks : )
  4. Hi, One of my neons has lost his red stripe on his body but still has some red in his tail. I noticed when I bought them home (about 2 weeks ago) one of them was a lot duller than the others. Not sure if it was this one or another (as one of them has since vanished). Is this fish sick? he is the biggest of the lot, (and this may be a really dumb question) but can they lose colour with age? He looks otherwise very healthy and is schooling with the other neons. Thanks : )
  5. So is it ok to have mollies and guppies in the same tank?
  6. Hi, I was in the LFS today and saw some really neat mollies. However, I didnt get any as I think I read ages ago that they cross breed with some other type of fish. Is this true? And if they do cross breed is it a problem with the type of fish you end up with? I have guppies, platys and swordtails. Thanks
  7. I gave them away. Have got the adults separated now
  8. Cool, thanks for your replies. I will keep them separate from now on. I think both GBA's must be females as there are no bristles, but only those small barbs on the side of one where they got caught in the net
  9. I have in my tank 2 GBAs and 2 black BA's. Both BA's are males (I think as they have the bristles on their noses) and the GBA's I thought were both females as they both have smooth noses. They are breeding as Ive just emptied their tank to put them into another tank and have found some babies. When I caught my 2nd GBA, I found out they have some barbs on the side of them (they got caught in the net  ) so I had to catch the rest in an ice cream container. I noticed that this one had some barbs, but the other GBA didnt appear to. Does this mean this one is a male and the other one isnt? Ive searched google but cant seem to find images to compare, but I did read that less dominate bristlenoses can have less bristles. Also, does it matter if the GBA's and BN's breed together? or is it best to have them in separate tanks? (I realise these are pretty silly questions but i just cant seem to find the answers on the net).

    Changing tanks

    Cool, thanks for the advice!
  11. Hi, Im planning on changing all my fish from a 80cm tank to a 120cm tank. I know tanks need cycling etc, but would my fish be ok if i used all the same stones, some of the water out of their existing tank and the internal filter? Because most of the stuff is being used now, would it still get new tank syndrome? I have about 50 community fish, and really dont want any floaters after this exercise! Thanks

    Worms

Ewweee so i have looked again and i have both of those sorts of worms. those flat slug looking things (which now i have found them also are very disturbing - they look like leeches!) and the worms. I am very guilty of overfeeding especially when i try and feed my glass catfish. I will cut back from now on. Thanks lots for both of your advice.

    Worms

Hi, Ive just siphoned some water out of my tank (and the gravel) and in the containter with the water i took out are worms. They are long and skinny. Does anyone have an idea what they are? will they affect my fish and should i put something in the tank to kill them? Thanks

    Imported fish

Thats good to hear. I have held off buying fish from the LFS as i was worried they were all wild caught. yay, now i dont have to worry : )

    Stiff thin tail?

Ive had a couple of platties and swordtails do the same thing. they go all skinny and it looks like an effort to swim, and have the funny fins etc. i asked the LFS and she suggested putting some rock salt in the aquarium. the latest one perked up a bit, but still is skinny. sorry not much help but maybe an idea.
