  1. The whistlers prefer cooler climes and are probably not normally around Auckland as they are normally in the South Island and southern half of the North.
  2. People often panic when they see a lot of dead bees by a hive and think someone has sprayed the blossoms with insecticide but bees don't live very long and the dead ones get chucked out of the hive. The problem is not usually insecticide but a dead hedgehog that got run over and is no longer feasting on the dead ones at night. They love them.
  3. Worry only if she bursts and makes a mess all over the place otherwise patience would be the trick. They know more about it than us so no need to worry at all.
  4. There was a thing on TV a while ago about trout becoming a massive size somewhere down south by feasting on mice and I think I saw something about fish feeding on bats or small mamals that fell off trees into the water. Nothing strange about it. Bears in some locations feast on salmon so I guess this could be thought of as payback.
  5. If I was in your position I would remove all the fillet with a one sided razor blade when properly dry and clean up properly. Replace the fillet with an untouched (fine) nozzle on the glue gun then spread with your finger while wet. You have the right idea but like most people, have used too much glue. Imagine the glue is worth $500 a tube and get tight with it.
  6. If you use those names you may get the right plant. Use any other names and you may get anything.
  7. You have used far too much silicone but it can be cut off with a one sided razor blade when the glue is properly dried (which may be a few days because of the amount).
  8. Hairgrass, Echinodorus tenellus tenellus, Echinodorus tenellus latifolius, Sagittaria microfolia.
  9. If you ring the airlines they will say no but if you take it on board security don't usually worry because fish don't normally swim in liquid explosives. There is always the risk that they will say no of course.
  10. You want an antifungal like methylene blue. It is to prevent the spread of fungus on infertile eggs to fertile ones.
  11. Welcome back. If you are now in Melbourne could you plase change the location on your signature.
  12. But he is not growing a beard, he has just stopped shaving and looks like men are supposed to look.
  13. Happy birthday old fella.
  14. That is a great plant and a great picture of it.
  15. If the temperature has been raised it could make them more active wether a pair or both same sex.
  16. I have not kept blue tounges but have seen biting like that as a prelude to mating with leopard geckos and bearded dragons. They don't normally wait to be formally introduced but there is generally not a lot of physical damage done. I don't know about the bluies but two male leps get pretty serious when they have a go. Do you know what sex they are?
  17. Killies will take a lower temperature than most but would be best in early twenties. I have bred them outside in a pond but only over summer. Don't forget that they jump (unless you get the trained ones from wok). They would be OK if the sides of the pond were raised a bit. Either one species with male and female or all males. Peat spawners tend to get velvet so do better in peaty acid water or with added salt (one teaspoon per gallon). If you put a lot of different males together it can look like world war three but in fact it is all bluff and bull. Like humans it is only the males that look good. Sorry I meant guppies.
  18. Wax moth larvae are used to condition reptiles but them, and other larvae along with mealworms are pretty fat and should not be fed as a staple diet. Too much fat can cause infertility in males and females.
  19. Wasp larvae used to be sold as a turtle treat but expensive. I understand they are also exported to Taiwan and are considered a real treat by humans.
  20. Some people grow a beard and others just stop shaving. I had a gaotie for years and more trouble than being clean shaven. Leave the man and his beard alone.
  21. Just salad till he gets hungry. They can go a long time without food before it does them harm.
