  1. Justin Justin Justin I think you have misheard me at times I have only said those things about you well also Kieran at cricket lol Nah i love being a part of this forum the differences are to numerous to mention but its just being treated as a person which makes the main difference Another is the lack of Egos here everyone realises that even the most accomplised fish keeper can learn something new from a newbie I am like Justin said I like to read alot of fishkeeping and wondering why someone does things differently I take abit from everyone i talk to and i change it to suit myself and my tanks I also have a fairly good memory(though does vary from time to time) which is why i do alot of research on aquariums I find i learn alot more here then the vast majority of websites i have read Brad
  2. Yeah Zev That sounds like an awesome idea I would love to come over there one day and have a good look around Though im not keen on anything to cold so its not going to be winter Yes definalty its the people on this forum that make the difference I just wanted to post something nice about this place cos i appreciate it with all the crap we have here, Except for my specials i post here more then the one i sponsor Brad
  3. Hey Did you do anything in particular in the few dyas before it went cloudy? Like a big water change or a filter clean/swap over? it does sound like a bacterial bloom which the tank will right itself in a few days Or you can use a product called AccuClear by Aquarium Pharm. or Seachems Clarity Both these products were great and arent to expensive Brad
  4. Im alittle amazed whetu with what has happened in this tank As theoretically its impossible to instantly cycle a new tank with a new filter Im not saying anything you have done is wrong A few things maybe ammonia test isnt accurate? maybe just those small fish only crearted tiny amounts of ammonia and when it was tested for the filter might have removed it and being only small amounts its cycling slowly By now 4 weeks it should be fully cycled but id just think it was cycling very slowly and ammonia was removed by the filter before you tested it By the way when i have been testing tanks for ammonia spikes to watch the cycle I have noticed a large tank with a few large fish go from 2-3 ppm to zero in less the 6 hours I was testing upto 3 times a day Brad
  5. Yeah thanx guys This is exactly what im talking bout everyone is friendly Alan yup thats me will be great to meet up while your over here Ill try and get into the chat one night soon I think its a 2 hour diff so about 7 my time will be fine i think lol Brad
  6. Hi guys I have been a member who for a short while and i was brought here by Justin (herefishiefishie) and im glad i did Some of the forums im on in Aus are not run properly and the majority of members dont want to answer question bout fish problems or even ask questions they might like are silly but here everyone gets in and helps out everyone noone is abused for asking a stupid questions(stupid questions IMO are only ones you already know the answer for) everyone has a go at answering questions This forum is open to new members not pushing them away from posting I just want to say Thank you to all the members here and i hope oneday we can meet That said there are times when some topics get alittle heated (i usually notice Justin and I involved) but i dont think it ever goes to far where it becomes personal. Everyone is entitled to their opinion doesnt matter what someone else thinks about it Thank you everyone Brad Ill stay around here alot longer if everyone still wants me lol
  7. Also one question Whats the maintenance on your tanks like? PH will naturally lower in your fish tank if there is nothing to keep it buffered up this is a result of the Nitrogen cycle. as everyone has said check your KH and GH levels and make sure they are high enough to stop another crash Brad
  8. In a white spots cycle of life it will float around your tank if the infestation is bad enough you will be able to see the white spot in the tank This is only time your able to kill the white spot Brad
  9. Hey guys yeah i agree with ammonia burning of your fish I wouldnt myself remove the fish from its enviroment as this will stress them out alittle to much at the moment I would do daily 20% water changes for a week and then twice a week do 25% changes for the next 3 to 4 weeks Salt in your tank always as justin said goldfish are prone to alot of different diseases and parasites I would use a tbl spoon to each 60l and add again every water change(important only add enough to cover the amount of water you have taken out) Cut the feeding back alot for the next few weeks At the same i would treat your fish for white spot because this is all added stress You will need a specific treatment for this though the salt will be helping as well Invest some money into a decent test kit and you will be able to check the water quality when you ever notice your fish acting differently You say know you have a knowledge of the Nitrogen cycle of you fish tank but you have followed any of the main rules to ensure your fish will be kept in clean water Brad

    Vent photos

No worries at all They are Both Females As soon as you a differnce in size from the 2 vents its safe to say Yup Girls lol Brad
  11. I know in Australia that i wouldnt touch them I have had 2 and only had problems with them both Dodgy lights in them are prone to water and to short out The is a massive difference in the AquaOne and the AquaPro or SunSun with the later being a cheap knockoff The filters IMO arent adequate for the size tank and the powerheads dont last long I wouldnt touch them as i dont see them worth anything Brad
  12. Just about all your veges can be used as food Have a look at the ingredients of your fish food Im sure it will amaze you Also lettuce isnt a good food as its 98% water and really nothing in benefits for your fish It wont hurt them but there isnt anything there for them Zucchini is great With veges though dont leave them in the water for longer then 24 hours as they will start to rot Try leavin the zucchini in there and smell it 24 hours later Brad
  13. How long are your lights left on per day? Also overfeeding will not help with algae Brad

  17. Yeah sorry your right I was looking at the new AquaEL unimax range just on the same page as SERA from the Sera rep Brad
  18. Alan your quite wrong here As chlorine and ammonia will react and form chloromines. Here on the Gold coast we have chlorinated water yet not chloramines though chloramine is a type of organic amines thank you to http://www.greenfacts.org/glossary/abc/chloramine.htm
  19. Thanx Justin yeah i dont like when people have been duped by other shops just to get the sale I had a customer in this week who had been sold these fish all together at the same time Ill let you know the tank size at the end 6 guppy 3 Tiger Barbs 3 Sailfin Molly 10 Neon Tetra 3 Gold Fish and 3 C moori or Blue Dolphins All fish were small between 3 and 5cm all these fish for an 18" tank in one sale approx 30l i couldnt believe how long this lost went on for When i advised her there was way to many fish she was very surprised also i told her her C moori will grow to about 25 to 30cm she wasnt happy with the store involved i did get the stores name out of her and i strongly advised her to go back and ask why she was sold these fish for this size tank Brad
  20. I think that the water should be forced to go through the sponge I have slighty adjusted your last diagram how i would think it should be Brad
  21. I agree Carbon is an added expense not required all the time I use it only whgen removing meds and when cycling a new tank as it si good at keeping ammonia levels low This has proven to be incorrect as carbon will not release anything unless it is refired at an extremely hot temp causing it to be Reactivated one bad thing with carbon though it is a really good breeding ground for Bacteria and is linked to some very dangerous diseases in humans also 90% of carbons usefullness it used up in the first 48 hours so it does need to replaced very often to keep it at its most productive Brad
  22. Hey guys do you have avail. the new SERA canister filters 2 of the new range have twin input and outputs Very easy to run 2 tanks off Brad
  23. Yeah it was amazing to see that these plecs who sposed to need a mud wall to burrow into to spawn breed in a fish tank I think justins point is more towards the fact they have bred in a tank Brad
  24. Freakyfish

    New Filter

This is also a good idea but only lightly do it in the new tank and make sure the PH, Temp and there isnt any chlorine in the new tank when u squeeze the filter material into the new tank This will help as well as doing all of what has been said b4 Better to be safe then sorry Brad
  25. I would go the Baensch book I have the Photo atlas and books 1 2 3 and waiting on book 4 to be delivered it is now in English I go to these books at the shop alot more then i do go to the net They arent cheap but i think thoroughly worth the money Brad
