  1. Lately i have been noticing a reasonaly high % or fry (from this season) that have out turned gil plates. I had the same problem last year, i thort it was dodgey genetics but i have changed all my breeding stock from last year. i do 25% water change twice a week with water being replaced into the ponds over the whole day as to reduce the effect of the chlorine in the water, because i dont use water ager, so it shouldnt be a water quality issue. I have been told that it could be a change in ph going from low to high (after a water change) So im not sure if other people have experienced this or knows what causing the bent gills? Cheers
  2. Cool thanks, how long do they usualy go for? and given the right conditions how many times can they breed in a season? Thanks
  3. Do turtles have a breeding season? i.e summer months?? Cheers
  4. I think yongs son (the guy who organises most of it) is overseas at the moment, i ordered some food a week or so ago and got it not long after, hes usualy prety slow to answer emails. im going to have to ring him today so il see what the story is about being disabled.
  5. Hi, thanks yeah i checked ph and it had dropped out below 6, i had been feeding some trout pellets to them (and over feed them) so im guessing that would have dropped the ph, as i have notticed similar symptoms to some of my orandas. jc360 did your fish come right??
  6. Hi , ive got a large (30cm) flowerhorn, hes recently started going downhill and has got cloudy eye and a white slime on his body. I have done a 50% water change and treated with furan 2, but hasent helped if anything has made it worse, and now i have just noticed some tiny parasite in the tank which are the same size a BBS. What is this?? and what would be the best way to cure this?? Thanks heaps
  7. Have been using melafix on the Oscar and he is looking good YAY Have been doing water changes on discus and they a perking up but still not right. Where would I get a new pump from??
  8. The amount of action is just insane! Why does it all happen when he is away?? How typical!! Maybe this stuff happens all the time and he just 'forgets' to tell me becasue he knows I will just roll my eyes and grunt. Don't worry he won't be going anywhere ever again. I will burn the passport if I have to!
  9. Each tank has a sponge filter run from the dead air pump. Last night I hooked up all the little pumps in a 'non-expert' way but decided a little air is better than no air so most fo the tanks have a tiny bit. I will buy some more little pumps after work and hook up the rest of the tanks. Hopefull ythat will be enough until Saturday night. Becasue thy now have no filters (my system couldn't handle it) should I cut back on feeding???
  10. I think this dilema is major (I am hoping that I am wrong) The air pump is not working. I came home and it had blown the fuse so I fixed it but now it is just mega hot and making a groaning sound. But none of the tanks have air. It is one of those massive pumps that do a whole fishroom, I know no air is bad. It must of happened a while ago becasue the fish don't look happy. How do I solve this dilema?
  11. I have done a massive water change on the oscars and about 15% on the discus. I also dosed the oscars with Melafix. Seperating them isn't an option as I don't have a spare big tank. Thanks for your help I am bound to have more questions when I get home and check them again tonight
  12. Thanks for your help!! I am also feeding and babies bloodworm and flake. The brine shrimp are for his multiple other babies Next Question... Last night his oscars (20-25cm) had a fight. At the time neither of them looked injured but I have just got home from work and although happy one of them has white fuzz coming from an injury. Can I do anything??? If so what?? thanks in advance (again)
  13. I'm in abit of a 'situation' Simon (the one who knows all about fish) had to go to Australia in a hurry this weekend and I have been left with the fish. Normally this is fine becasue he writes me the 'dummies guide' and I manage to work it out. This time because he went in a hurry I have zero instructions so I am hoping that someone on here can help answer my questions. 1. How do I make brineshrimp?? I know it is baking soda, slat and water but how much of everything? My supply is nearly ruun out and I know it takes time for them to hatch. 2. His baby discus (about 1-1.5cm) are not looking good.(2 dead already) Before he left he put Prazi?? in the tank. but can I do anything else?? Thanks heaps if you can help me Angela (the fish dummy)
  14. I think it may be eggs. If you are talking about a seahare then ours did the same
  15. Ive been having a realy bad time of my GBAs dying. It looks like they are exploding in their bellies. Has other people had this?? Is it what they are eating?
