I would say its the wood if the water is just turning an off color, the best thing to do is get some high-grade carbon for your filter. Some filters have optional carbon inserts otherwise you can buy it buy the box and put some in with the other filter material in your filter. The carbon does need to be change every couple of months to prevent the build up of toxins going back into the tank. As for the chasing the males were probably just finding there place in the pecking order, you really need to have a 3:1 ratio females to males, this spreads out the males desires between all the females. north shore regulations have changed so that even if your entire property is fenced you may still be breaking the bylaw. It has a clause about doors opening towards the pool i think. It's a pretty badly written bylaw in my opinion, not in merit but it how understandable it is. :lol:

do a search on this forum for lighting and there are a few threads that give some good detail on the best sorts of lights to use. you can get different kelvin ratings which produce different "shades" of light. Have a look around there is lots of stuff on here.

you could always consider adding another smaller filter, e.g an internal or HOB and have two types running at once.

construct it for like 1700, then you will have a safety factor which is always good when dealing with a tonne of meesy water :lol:

nah the guy said brineshrimp. But do you know any where good for daphina, i'm kinda keen for a source of live food full stop, i have mossie larvae and bloodworms at home in small qauntities in some buckets but a nice source where i could go and catch a larger amount and mabye freeze or something??
