    6ft Tank

You're right beachy but i'm unfortunitly lacking the couple hundy to buy a new tank, and even then i may as well use the one i have seeing as it cos me $40, heaters cost me $20 and pump cost $30 so $90 for a 3/4 filled planted tank to grow plants for my other tanks sound good. I figure i'll try run it on as low budget as possible. Nice idea Ira but sounds like alot of work,

    6ft Tank

My plans now are to have a planted tank and only fill it to 3/4. ( that was what was recommended but tough tanks) and maybe have a couple of BN to keep the algae at bay, or other bottom feeeders. Sound good?

    6ft Tank

i've had a rethink, the people at tough tanks said 450mm was the highest i should fill it. So i thnk i'll run it as a plant tank, maybe a few fish. Would i need a filter if i had no fish?? I can always really on people here to give great advice Double thumbs up

    6ft Tank

I put to braces across the top, each are 600x300. the bottom has a few pieces of glass thick as the botoom broke and glass has been used to repair, so pretty much 15mm bottom

    6ft Tank

Hey, I've got tis six foot tank. It measure 1800x600X600 the only problem is it is only made form 6mm glass. I rang "tough tanks" about replacing the botom and they said that 6mm was to thin. Does anyone else have a tank like this? Would this be ok to fill up? Does Anyone have a 6ft tank they want to sell?? Cheers

    B/N get stuck?

Well done. If you run out of space in your tank i'd always be willing to buy i couple off you to ease the load. Double thumbs up!!
  8. mine sits on the bottom as well, the most important thing is to break the surface tension to get the water airated. I think you could put it just about anywhere in your tank and it would be fine. I like the pics by the way
  9. I think you will find it won't fit into your tank 300 watt is a large heater. I have a 55L tank running on a 55W heater. I think a 150W is about what i would recommend, I had mine running on a 150W for a while and it was really good, nice stable temp. MRSkz is sending me up some 300W heaters for invercargill. They were like $10, she said there were some 150W at that price as well. There may still be some down there.
  10. the sand hasn't been in the filter for almost 3 months, and it's been out in the sun for all that time, our pool is a shocker and we very rarely take good care of it... note to self: use chemicals if you don't want a green pool!! I think i might give it a go, it's going to go into a empty tank so maybe i will give it a mightly clean, bake it in the sun then put it into the. Try it with a few neons etc and lots of water changes and see how it goes.
  11. yeah thats what i was thinking. Thanks for the help Ira
  12. Is it a good idea to use sand from a pool filter as substrate in a tank?? We had our sand changed a while ago (couple of months), I just contemplated the idea of using it as a substrate in a tank. Does anyone have any ideas??
  13. I really like the setup. A+++
  14. I second that! Thats got to hurt even if you can only remeber things for a few moments at a time.
  15. I was just wonderin if anyone could tell me a sure fire way to tell if a female guppy is going to give birth in say the next 12 hours. I have a couple that look like they could give birth soon, but want to keep all the fry so need to get them out of the comm tank, but don't want to put females unnessecarily into another tank or into breeding trap. Your help would be greatly appreciated
  16. I got some malawi cichlids off the same people who are selling them, they are great people and i'm sure the fish will be in excellent condition.
  17. instead of using peat or pebbles to line the bottom i used marble, not like marbles you play with, the sort you make benches out of, it comes in stones about 30mm. Refer to my posting under Freshwater tanks and you can see it in the bottom of my tank.
  18. could you post a picture, i'm quite interested to see.
  19. i have not had any problems with my malawi tank, they all get a but nippy at times but because i have 18 they spread it out amongst themselfs. african aren't too hard to keep, just need to have high pH, i achieved that using a black marble as the substrate.
  20. electric yellows etc. will take like 24 hours to start taking to the neons etc, the are also african cichlids therefore like very alkaline water. Most other fish prefer neutral or slightly acidic, not pH of 8 as they like. They really need to be in a tank with other cichlids otherwise chaos will rein. I'm pretty sure i'm right, feel free to correct me anyone.
  21. ok do people actually eat pacu, i've never heard of it being eaten. And i eat alot.
  22. i did as misnoma said and put the filter in my old tank. Have had zero ammonia since i setup my new tank more than a month ago, even though i added a large number of fish

    Ich?

you only do water changes so that you can represent the change in water from the flow in oceans rivers and lakes but i'll take that
  24. i've had problems with rosy barbs and male guppies so maybe not the best combination. But i argee with caryl, any of those would be good, you could get a couple of different schoals which would look good. I do quite like tanks with only a couple of species though, ie platies and guppies

    Ich?

If you've had similar before and it just went away maybe leave it abit and see how it goes, he maye recover fine. As i see it there is no point add chemicals of treatments to your tank unnesscary, i don't think you'd see king Neptune doing it.
