    BROWN ALGAE

i know lots disagree with me but i put a chineese algae eater into my malawi tank, clen of brown algae in two or three days. They apparently get quite aggressive but that should be fine with malawi for tank mates.
  5. i just feed mine crushed flake really small, also they like a bit of java moss, has something starting with I on it, thats all i've gathered.

    6ft Tank

sorry to dredge up an old thread but I took another look at the tank. turns out i shouldn't rely on others measurements. Tank is in fact 1800x600x500high, so now i think i will go with it 'full' that is the usual few cm's less than full and do a bit of auqascaping to give it some nice scenary, then consider some fish, don't have a good filter so will large quantities will have to wait. What sort of quanity of fish would people recommend to start with? (I mean after it is cycled of course ) i was looking at B/N, gourami, tetras, maybe barbs. Any ideas would be appricated.
  9. redikillous?? I think someone just has too much time and to much imagination
  10. It's a great plant, i love the size. Looking for plants that sort of size for my 6ft tank If you get any offshoot planlets your trying to get rid of.
  11. i'd be happy just to have the rainforest in my backyard
  12. do you think we could take the fresh air (probably steal it from southland) and some how get it to reproduce??????? Maybe something like a rainforest in my back yard?? Oh for the dreams of grandure.
  13. tank looks great well done with the plants they look fantastic, very lush. What is the sword on the far right in the pic, the large one. awsome tank
  14. the problem with that is 300w uses less power to heat 250L than 300L. I think someone made a snazzy device that your can use on single wires or on a fuse in the fuse box that tells you the power consumption. You can also put in the cost leave it for a month and it will tell you what the cost was. Only prob is all your tanks have to run of one or two fuses, or a single plug. I think the energy comission or someone has them
  15. apologes tanksman. :-? :-? Maube i shouldhave stayed awake in chem.
  16. water can only dissolve x amount of gas no matter what sort, if you fill it up by continuously pumping in CO2 all the O2 is pushed out, CO2 is more dense, not that it makes a difference. So yes CO2 does effect O2, it will displace it.
  17. if your talking 6-8 hours night time then i don't think the build up would be to bad. Airstone sounds safeist though.
  18. wouldn't a little tap in your tubing do the trick?? switch it off during the night, somewhere like mitre 10 or placemakers would have them i would think.
  19. yeah i have liike 7 tanks so i figure i can split them up need be . i've heard they can be aggressive.
  20. why do you say they are a nusince?? Mine don't both any of the other fish and do a get job of cleaning the tank. I'm not sure if they are the gold chineese ones.
  21. I have two golden algae eaters and one of them has become really plumpt. Does anyone know anything about how these guys breed?? I would love to have some little ones. They are currently in a community tank as the clean up crew. Tank is 600x300x300 I do have a few smaller tanks i could move them to. Any advice would be great.
  22. Chineese algae eaters - as long as they don' become food for your eels. I brought one within 3 days it cleared 100L tank full,
  23. i think it would work fine, there is always the possiblity the crack may 'spread' but I would say go for it. you an aways get a piece of glass cut to either replace or cover the bottom(from the inside)
  24. they seemed to have a cool routine though, one was always looking after the eggs while the other 'defended' no that there was much to defend from, the other guys are real peaceful, slightly curious though  thanks pegasus. I'm heading up north for the weekend so i'll have to wait and see when i come back. Alot of luck involved i'd say
  25. i cleared away the fungised ones, in doing so found that some of them had started to riggle. Who knows if any of them will get to free swimmin. Have moved the pipe out ito the fry tank but didn't touch the ones on the glass so the angels are still happy looking after them. Fingers crossed
