  1. $8k for 1000w http://www.ecoinnovation.co.nz/product.php?group=4&PHPSESSID=3197051810b25af7df0a6b30038370e5
  2. What about solar? Esspecially those in the north, most areas are perfect for it. It would probably set you back 5-10 grand but at $500 a month thats easierly paid off in 2 years. Would be esspecially a good idea for those of you who have just moved or building new homes. No more relying on the mains grid, if you get enough you can even make money of the power companis by running unused power through the meter box. Large capital investment but panels last "forever" and almost zero maintainance.
  3. what about replacing clay layer with layer of peat? esspecially if your wanting lower than 7 pH
  4. Ok i was thinking that. Cos mine hardly go on all summer. plus even during winter they're on and off. I'll recalc. here we go Total Watts used: 814.5 watts Watts per annum: 38690 hours per year Kilowatt hours used: 38.69 kw/hrs Lighting: $49.25 per year (303.096 kw/hrs) Pumps: $0 per year (0 kw/hrs) Filtration: $56.8 per year (349.524 kw/hrs) Heating: $438.91 per year (2701 kw/hrs) Other appliances: $0 per year (0 kw/hrs) TOTAL: $544.96 Savings: You could save money by switching supplier this is using our 16.250 c/kWhr rate
  5. I'm not sold on that calculator, I don't think the heater calculator is right. Because is assumes it is on the whole time, did you guys change how many hours a day they ran? Total Watts used: 840 watts Watts per annum: 38690 hours per year Kilowatt hours used: 38.69 kw/hrs Lighting: $10.88 per year (182.5 kw/hrs) Pumps: $0 per year (0 kw/hrs) Filtration: $26.1 per year (438 kw/hrs) Heating: $386.35 per year (6482.4 kw/hrs) Other appliances: $0 per year (0 kw/hrs) TOTAL: $423.33
  6. I'd probably go swordtail, pretty easy to breed and can be sold for a fair bit if you start with some good stock. guppies are selling pretty cheap at the moment, really easy but hard to find and breed really good looking ones worth a bit. What sort of fish keeping experience do you have? That might help determine things, stick with what you know.

for smallish tank with anemone and soft coral are just T5 lights ok or do you need metal halides. Not a big sps fan (everyone has there personal prefernce, no offfence intended ). I'm just figuring out whether a marine tank is fessible for me, thanks

  21. As a law student, it is possible to say that the law is unjust and immoral. Depending on which judge you get you could create legislative change. Drafters and parliament are dimwits when it comes to writing whole proof legislature, the law is constantly changing from one year to another and all it takes is a landmark case. Not sure if a lionfish would do it, but i'd be happy to fight it pro bono (sp??) (free) once i graduate. Not that it would have anything to do with my degree as i'm going to do intectual property. I'm going to go back to one of my previous staements that we need an aquarium floating in international waters
