  1. was there yesterday ( mt roskill) only cool one was the boxfish .. and an unusual trigger..by my guess and looking was a " pervagor melanocephalus" .. but Reef you'd know what it was as I guess came from you?...
  2. Hey wok .. throw the adults outside ... have them in a very overly massively big terracotta pot and these guys are like rabbits ... fry every where ... best place for them I TINK..
  3. milky stool ... I'd see a doctor about that if someone has some .. 8)
  4. Hey there . awhile ago had a 4ft tank with 3 seperate u/g plates .. bread and butter community tank ... with bristlenose too ... anyway .. 1 of the uplifts stopped working .. didn't bother to fix for awhile ... about a month later adjusted the gang valve( sure these have a mind of their own and am sure they just want to piss me off  )..so current is renewed to said u/g plate and bluddy hell out comes clumps of bristlenose eggs ... mad panic retrieval before B&B fish decide these large balls are food ... .... cool 8)
  5. Bloodworm is high in phosphates .. the only way to keep feeding bloodworms is to do a quick rinse/soak under running water ... this helps to release most of the phosphates before feeding to your fish ... one symptom of high phosphates is the 'dreaded" black algae which as far as I have seen , nothing eats ... 8)
  6. [quote Hey, ive just seen, Klay, you have a daughter about my age LOL What!! my 2 yr old ................... 8)
  7. Try putting your hand into a reef tank( I know its a marine subject) with cleaner shrimps and loose skin( i.e around your fingernails) the little bugga's tear it off !! let alone what bugs enter after they "skin" you :-? 8)
  8. Hey ! .. Oompa Loompa's rule .... their heads have the colour of water melons gone wrong... all you need is a cricket bat!! ... hmmmm 8) 8)
  9. I think beer has more substantial goodness in it ? :-? ... me I like my potatoes as in " vodka" ..... Brendan ... where is that pic below your name from , east coast? looks cool... 8)
  10. Well B&K .and all others reading. mudskippers and anableeps are not suited to the tank that was shown ... hence no scats either .. with the plants after alot of years learning as most people do I know the tolerances of salt the plants in the pics can handle ... besides when was the last time you saw a real muskipper in NZ ... was in the LFS trade a couple of years ago and only thing provided was the " long skipper" which is the false skipper ... just looks like one but longer and no developed legs ... ( if you believe in evolution.. it is a slow developer of the same family as the muddy).. :-? plant wise keep with java , anubius , val , hygro ,.. once you learn how they handle salt then you can keep crypts (YES , CRYPTS FOR ALL YOU DISBELIEVERS ... ) ... but in saying this the salt concentration wasnt much ... only thing is vary the salt mix per water change .... keeps them all on their toes.. have other brackish tank pics .. will post soon.. cheers K.
  11. used to , but with movin' around it's not the best for them, sold them and bought a valiant coupe ( but that was a couple of years ago)... besides it's more economical to use a firing service about 2 km's away ... one of the few perks to living central jaffa....
  12. wish I still had it... had an archer (t. jaculator) . monos A & S (10 all up), chromis( breeders) , borneo tiger , bristlenoses... and spiney eels ( they don'y mind the salt ) even thou the mix was only 2 teaspoons per gallon. am planning on setting up a new 4ft brackish .. but have to off load a large sized 3ft marine tank with clowns , live rock , inverts , and caulerpa first..
  13. hey Kat , I don't know much about this type of frog , but if you can wait acouple of days my brother is back in town and I'll get him to post sum info for you ... cool 8)
  14. Sorry hummingbird . their business doesn't exist anymore.... :-?
  15. Hey Cheers people ... alot of thought and " hesitation' went into this one... thought we would have morality protesters outside after set up. @mystic ... PM me if your serious about another "bob" .. I can make another one/two .. no rush 8) @penejane .. we got the handles up the road from a funeral home .. hehe. I sold "bob" for $300 .. as far as I can remember the stand/hood builders stung us about $1500 because it was one of my own designs ( not theirs) @beachy ... yup we had "ol'red" the devil in there after the pacus sold.. I called him "bob2" never known a fish to bolt from the opposite side of the tank and ram and try to bite the glass at the same time when ever you put your face up to it. he had a bluddy thick head.... at one stage we had oscars breeding in there using the hip bones as their nest.. so fired clay works well.. @caryl .. I wouldn't look to happy either sitting on the bottom of a tank with no skin and "piranha" looking fish cruising around   @craig .. pics show tank set up only about 2 hours , so still cloudy from gravel etc.. @caper ... LOL ... Tra la la laaaaaa .. sum more shots plus " bob ina box" .. before oxide firing. enjoy. 8)
  16. Wha fank ya all very muchly ... 8) .. @mystic ... if you set up something like this you will definatly have to remove the top braces , but only temporarily.. @ alan , the system ran 3 powerhead driven u/g plates extending under the internal contruction supports into the frontal area plus an external canister so I had 4 inlets with splitters so alot of outlets all up ... @caryl wasn't too noisey , but having a beer around it made you think more about "goin"..
  17. Hey thats a " Carinotetraodon Somphongsi" .. "red eye puffer" and its a "boy" .. yur lucky... I've only ever had females in my time ..in the ref pic the dark markings on the belly are usually a sign of stress .. these guys are really shy and don't enjoy boysterous ( spelling !) fish.. but cool you have one .
  18. Heres another tank I set up .. we had this one for axolotls.. had full cascading water over the rocks... I wanted to make this one as a brackish setup . :-?
  19. Nah .. was fired to 1070 degrees and refired with manganese oxide for the " weathered' effect ... was going to add a smashed divers mask , torn flippers and a shredded dive belt .. but after placing Bob in the tank liked the barren look .. only prob was the girls I worked with kept cleaning him of algae .. looked better that way.. plus the pleco kept sucking on him too ..
  20. this guy created alot of comments ...+ opinions :-? ... but hey 8)
  21. .. here is a tank system I set up awhile ago , I made the skeleton out of white clay and added Pacus and a pleco for effect.... @ mystic .. this would be a safer way to have a skull in your tank
  22. can anyone show me how I can throw sum pics on here ... purdy pleaz
