  1. Do the polar bears speak french up there ? ... or are they anglo saxonised?? 8)
  2. have got 3 cleaner shrimps plus 1 bluddy large CB shrimp.. they get on fine ... tried introducing 20 odd glass shrimp to help with cleaning etc .. have never seen such carnage from mellow cleaners .. they turned into mass killers and slaughtered the glass with in about 5 minutes ... CB just cruised around picking at the dregs falling from the feast above .... as for collecting glass shrimp .. best place was the east side of long bay at low tide around the point . .. untill I found out it is still part of the reserve
  3. My brother had six pacu's about 4" long .. gave 2 away to a mate .. he kept them in tropical conditions .. my bro kept them at room temp ... gets cold up at leigh ... within a year the trop pacus where triple this size ( 12") compared to the temp pacus ( 6") ... so you can keep them by stunting their growth thru slowly the metabolism ... sounds like " oh I wish this puppy could stay like this forever".. :-?.................. 8) personally I think they are a s**t fish and should be banished as they can and do live in our temperate conditions..
  4. would recommend spending your money on the ammonia , nitrite test kits at least before spending money on fish that could die :-? ( if you have high ammonia .. fish can survive but gills damaged for life.... high nitrites .. get out the spade(porcelian bowl)(water changes for both readings)... do recommend the nitrate test kit .. but you can get around this by having a very deep area of gravel with no water movement thru or around it .. starts "anerobic bacteria" which break down nitrates to gas which escapes the tank ... plus put alot of plants in the tank and you should be good as gold 8) hey debs you got a zippy too !!
  5. all you have to do to get these going again after cleaning is to fill the unit ( in its usual place on the tank) from a container with tank water while turning it on... usually take 20 seconds for the pump to lift water from tank to start cycle...if you have clear tubes you can see the action... 8)
  6. one question .. is the intake tube fully pushed into the pump housing .. this could result in water being pushed back up the compartment and into the tank ??? ... only a thought 8)
  7. Nah! just have to throw the lawn mower in there every couple of weeks .. think they just break up the usual coral/coral/coral/coral/coral/coral/coral/coral uniform systems with a bit of greenery (or red) ... 8) but thats only my op.
  8. Anyone want any caulerpa , have trimmed my tank severely ..... if you want some send me a container and I'll fill er up and send back ... see pic for what has to go.... if you have any spare softies ( polyps , mushies ...bits and bobs ) would luv to swap but have to clean out tank anyway so PM your interest.
  9. can we give you a shopping list of live stock we can't get here to bring back from england ... 8)
  10. only have 2 halide housings and making the most of what I have .. 10K does sound like a better choice cheers ... so how much are these bulbs goin' for ??? . hopefully T5 sorted.. can anyone help me with water current pumps ?? I would like to have all this installed by next weekend.. :-? 8) PM me with prices .. cheers Klay.
  11. unless proved wrong .. Jansens and Hollywoods source their carbon from either Kongs or Brooklands so testing their product would be very even with each batch delivered.
  12. softies, LPS , no SPS ...so what you think I need then ? 8)
  13. wanting to buy .. but think this is the best place for asking about what I need, plus get a faster response + ( don't want to deal with "unkowns")
  14. have a 5.5 ft tank I'm setting up .. and need this equipment 2 x 14 K double ended halide bulbs (150 wtt) 2 x 1200mm or 1500mm fluro arcadia? remote fittings + actinic tubes to suit. (would luv T5 if cheap enough).... :-? 2 x current pumps ( 2000 - 2500 LPH) ... can anyone help me here ...

    Fishy love

"SLEEPIN'" (as a guess) and not what your thinkin' anthony ...lol
  16. they should put them under an "actinic" tube for display ... my cardinals look "bluddy trippy" running this light ( my after hours light).... 8)
  17. oxy shells are a gimick for newbies who trust the LFS for advice ... in the long term would be better to upgrade to a larger twin outlet pump with gang valves to each seperate tank... 8)
  18. Nooooo ... send them to me .. pleeeeease
  19. just don't kill him .. if you think you have to .. send him to me
  20. looks like a " gorilla crab" ( sp ?).. if the end of the pincers are flattened , shouldn't be a hassle in the tank , only prob is they like to move things around in the tank.. :-?
  21. nice open tank .. ' das ist wunderbar" .. sorry don't know dutch... but being germanic should understand .. ein "tanken " ist gut ja" 8)
  22. geez tell me about it , saw the horseshoe crabs all over thailand forsale in the fish markets ... when you look at one upside down ya think " wheres the meat" .. but sure enough on Koh Chang island we saw the locals throw them on a BBQ and they cook them upside down , poor bugga's ... not a pleasant site to see .. just as bad as the "fighting roosters" about 20 feet away ... but "was Thailand" ..... 8)
  23. That tank had an average of 2/3 teaspoon per gallon .. so chould keep plants .. but was only an average as with each water change just mixed by hand/taste for salinity .. bracks need variation in salt being estuary based.... the BN just need about 1 hr in the bag slowly mixing in ... very hardy pleco these guys.... 8)
